One more shot from the small mountain town of Metsovo (view also the note in the "Three old ladies" posting two days ago). The guy is dressed with the traditional costume of the area. In his shop he is selling local products as honey, cheese, wine and a local home made pasta (hilopites). Suppose that all his products are "home made" thus the name "tseligas" which means "the chief shepherd"...
The pose is a classic one of the men in this area, with serious face and a bit of frowing, which is unchanged for the last 4 centuries at least:-). The character of the mountain people in Greece - as everywere in the world - is completely different than the sea side people. They are harder and less smiling than the more open and smiling sea side population.
Photo transformed in B&W, light sepia tone added in PS.

Good shot! Very rich in details. Also the conversion to the sepia B&W very nicely done without loss of detail in highlights and shadows. Just plain old good work....Best compliments!

I would like to write your words 'Indeed you did succeed to capture the feeling of' this area of Greece. Also I think I see overal Greece feelings. Perfect. Thank you.

The sepia tones adde a warm feeling to this image, and I find it very effective. He is a character, for sure. I like the ggods in his shop, and these traditional shoes. Very good shot, and excellent PP, George.

do you mean he has been sitting there for 4 centuries ? ;-)
he has very natural, comfortable pose
you composed the picture well, isolating the man and his shop from the rest of the disturbing world

George, the pose and the look of the sephard looks very very original like he comes from the old movies of greek cinema (you know what i mean)...and the bw helps a lot for that...very weel done.

That serious look reminds me of someone! :-P
The B&W choice makes it look as an old one and all those goods form a nice composition behind the man. Very well done!

You have succeeded the expression that you tell in the note very well.Very nice b/w tones and the shop is so warm that it's in contrast with the serious guy.And i think the greek letters fit the composition a lot.

The composition the expressions and the color choice make me feel like im in Greece
There is some noise or the shot is unsharp a bit but it gives me a great feeling to watch it

I love this photo Giorgo especially because as you describe in your note mountain people smile less and it shows so well in this photo
paido (944) 2004-10-02 12:35
I would bet that man knows everything going on in that street. He looks very "natural" meanning that he is really NOT smilling at you even if you are photographing him...
Good shot at the life in greece.

Well done for retrieving, hope they gave you the money (I mean George).
