Photographer’s Note
Another picture from our lovely holiday in Crete in July. Unfortunately, I cannot remember exactly where I took this (these) shot(s) but it was a few kilometres south of Armeni on the way to Spili - so no map reference, I'm sorry!
Olive trees almost as far as the eye can see, a main feature of the landscape in Crete, the Cretans being avid consumers of olive oil.
This is almost a 180 degrees panorama - you can click on the image for a larger version - composed of seven JPEG shots merged in Photomerge in PSE6.

Hi John, This is a faultless panorama in which the mountains dominate, looking at the large version i like how this shows up more of the detailed landscape of the mountain side especially in the section to the left, colours and light just right. Thanks Tom.

Hi John,
This is very impressive! I have tried several times to post such panoramas, but I think the instructions here on TE are quite poor. When I manage to post a picture that allows me to add a large version, I always get an error that I don´t really understand. Seems to have something to do with the size, or total allowed size. But this here is perfect, very fine resolution and no visible compression drawbacks. Congratulations!
Kind regards
Gunnar

hello John,
this is so typially Cretan with its rather forbidden barren hills and the oasis of green in the valley.I can almost smell the dried herbs (the thing I like most about stepping of a plane on one of the Greek islands).
An accomplished panorama that takes a skill that I have yet to have a go at mastering.

Hello John,
A very impressive panorama, with a lovely variety of greens in the different trees.
I particularly like the patterns that the trees make in their separate groves, and the diminishing sizes of both groves and individual trees, as the eye travels across the image towards the base of those barren mountains.
I was initially a little confused by the tracks going off at an angle at each bottom corner until I realised that your 180° compass had produced this interesting effect from a single track running across the FG.
The stitching is impeccable – the only tiny thing I could remark on is some very faint areas of "blockiness" in the sky, doubtless artefacts a result of the compression needed to accommodate such a wide panorama within the 400kb limit. I suppose a little bit of blur applied to the sky alone might remedy this.
Otherwise, this is a superbly sharp and beautiful image.
Kind regards,
Peter.

Hi John
Interesting subject for discussion.
Ok for the foreground and the mountain.
An exception for the sky, Photomerge is not perfect as I explain you before.
It's important to not use Polariser for a stitch; it's giving different tones of sky colour.
I suggest you also to use a lens close to 50 mm.
Best regards.
