The monastery of Arkadi / Moní Arkadhíou is an Eastern Orthodox monastery, situated on a fertile plateau 14 mi (23 km) to the southeast of Rethymnon on the island of Crete .
The current catholicon (church) dates back to the 16th century and is marked by the influence of the Renaissance. This influence is visible in the architecture, which mixes both Roman and baroque elements.

Dobry den, Martin,
we have been there on our honeymoon in 1987 and still have good remembrances of that place, especially of some narrow open stairs in one of the monastery's courts and the fat dark fair pigtail of a woman which was the only part remaining of her when the defenders blew up the whole estate, fearing to be killed by the Osmans otherwise.
BTW: We are still married.
