Photographer’s Note

Hello friends,

Lazy, hot afternoon, amazing aroma of superb food all around...for a moment all these tables will be full of people enjoying this lovely place...It's a chance for good business too, so most of cafes have their border - like the yellow line here not to allow the others to enter their territory:)

Everybody is trying to find a solution for comfortable lunch, so is this old man doing it so. He simply sat at his tiny balcony at home...and enjoy the life;)

Cheers!

The city of Chania is the second largest on Crete and is considered among the most picturesque in Greece. It is built around the old Venetian Port and Castle (Casteli), which have preserved their medieval characteristics, and extends to the new part, remarkably different in style, with its parks and wide streets. A visit to this city will prove very interesting, as it combines modernism with tradition, and it can satisfy the inquisitive visitor with its many culturally important sights to see. Staying up all night long is generally true for most cities in Greece, but towns where West meets East and different cultures co-exist, and where the 21st century shakes hands with Minoan Prehistory, classical Greece, medieval knights' tradition, post-medieval Turkish occupation, and World War II anti-nazi heroism are not so abundant. It is this aspect of Chania's personality that make it so unique.

And, with regard to the people of the region of Chania, it should be noted that there exists only one Greek word for both Foreigner and Guest, a unique phenomenon in the many languages spoken in the western world. And as far as a people’s mentality is concerned, the language spoken is the most tell-tale characteristic. In Chania, whether you are in a luxury hotel, in a discounted four-star hotel, or staying in a bargain-priced, self-catering apartment, you will never be treated as a foreigner, but always as a guest!
