Photographer's Note

This photo is taken at 25 of March. All other Greece town have parade for national Anniversary, but at my city (Karpenisi) is snowing. So the parade is canceled but the atmosphere become extreme clear but also clouded over.
Thus I took the car for a small walk. At some time the clouds opened little and the sun litted up side of Koniskoy that is the village Klaysi.

Klafsi (Κλαυσί)
It is found in altitude 790m and abstains 9 km from Karpenisi. It is said that existed sometimes, in unknown time, capital of Evrytania, in the palaiochristianiki(first years of Christianity religion) season perhaps and seat of bishop. It is not however certain that here it was ancient Oichalia for that many eyrytanian villages claim, as Fidakia, Koryschades, Xoxlia etc. The name of village according to the delivery emanated from the teardrops that were poured by his residents, which had probably remained after his terrible destruction, from their Galatians of Brane 279 BC. Near to village is found the locality Saint Nikolas where they exist many indicatively old settlement, as foundations of home, tiles, domestic objects, aqueduct etc.
Excavation that became in the 1957-1958 revealed mosaic flooring of temple, few meters above the left bank of Karpenisioti river and in the NW. fringe of current village, length 28m and width of 18 m. This flooring presents very appreciable thematic elements, belongs in palaiochristianiki royal church that build in the end of 5th century and you can reach as there with your car. The temple of that is saved today the mosaic flooring was three declinable royal built the 5th century. His dimensions are 28 x 18m. From the sign that was revealed under the space of Saint Bank it appears that the temple was older and renovating the 5th century. In the sign it is reported that the same season became also the work “xamokentiseos”, that is to say the manufacture of mosaic flooring in which exist marvelous artistic representations of animal kingdom with birds, but also marine species. The mosaic flooring was revealed in 1955, after a possible rain, and the excavations became between years 1957-1959. The church remained a lot of years unprotected and suffered enough destructions. Today it is protected with special extra roof.(right end of photo) The temple is dedicated in Saint Leonidi, bishop Athens, which testified in Korinthos 251 A.C. Later, to his price, were built churches in Korinthos and Athens
