GREECE: S.O.S. - 64 deaths! Photo

I deeply SAD! My beautiful country (and my fine island too) are under FIRE! At least 100 amazing places are under fire the last two days!

The half of Peloponissos and the north part of Evia island are burnt and still burning right now. Almost 30 or more villages have destroyed! :(

This is how looks like the fire in Aliveri area from my balcony. Please don't critiquize my photo, it's my least contribution to the 53 dead people and the thousands of sq. meters which turned in ashes in the last two days! :( My country is sending an SOS to everyone! Please help! We're burning.

PS: Disaster update:

- The greek TV stations just said that the big fire at Peloponissos is almost outside of the Ancient Olympia, the mother land of the ancient Olympic Games! :(((

- Just found 5 more dead people in Evia! The ages was between 18 and 30 years old! 3 more are missing! :(( Now the deads are 58!!!!

- One more dead! :( 59 until now!

- The 50% of the forest around Ancient Olympia, which was sacred for the Ancient Greeks just burned!

- Now, the burning smell is very strong, here in Chalkis, 50 klms away from the big fire of Aliveri area! From my balcony, from the same point I took this shot a few hours ago, I can see a huge black cloud of smoke which covers the moon! :(

- A big fire started a half an hour ago, in Kefalonia island! :(

- Another dead people found at Platanos village, Peloponissos. Now the deaths are 60! Plus one! 61!

- One people who reffered as dead found alive! :) So the deaths are 61!

- A new fire just started in Kerkyra (Corfu)

- A resident of Kefalonia island just said that 3 more fires started the same hour in a small area of the island! :(

- An old woman found dead in Peloponnisos. Now the deaths are 62! :(

- One more dead people found. Tragedy without end! 63 deaths until now!

- One more dead people found in Zaharo, Peloponissos. 64 dead people until now!

At this time, I want to thank you from my heart the friendly nations which sent their help, especially Turkey and Cyprus. Thank you all, friends! I hope to be the last time which we see a disaster like this one!

Hi Mpampis,
This is really sad news that is coming through our tv screens almost every day. It seems the situation is really bad and a lot of people have been killed by these fires. My country also have send some help and let's hope the whole European community will do all it can to make this tragedy very quickly to an end...

I heard this in the news here too, Greece has long been suffering from extreme heat this summer and those fires, whether natural or criminal, are the logical consequence, we can just hope for the greek people to find the energy to fight further (hopefully with some foreign canadairs and similar planes to come to assist) and for mother nature to throw some water over your beautiful country.

Dear Neighbour,
I'm very sorry for the terrible disaster befallen on you.
Powerless are the words to express my sorrow and anger.I'm sure that evil-doers have benefited from the heat to do this sinister act.
We've been having the same tragic events for some time.

Luckily, minutes ago rain started falling.

I'm with all Greek people in our neighbouring country.

This is a very upseting situation and problem of all Med countries. Very little rain and hot weather. And if you add mindless people to this equation, here is the disaster.

I cried when I heard about the mom and her four children. My heart is with you and all the one who are in fight with forest fires in Greece and all around the world.

I have just seen that France sent 60 firemen and 4 canadair planes. It is little but perhaps that will give a little assistance.

Οτι και να πει κανεις ειναι λιγο για το μεγεθος της καταστροφης,το οποιο δεν ειναι τιποτα μπροστα σε αυτα που θα δουμε τα επομενα χρονια...εαν δεν αλλαξουμε ολοι μας τα καμμενα μας μυαλα...

This evening we stayed more than one hour in front of TV watching the news from Greece...I am so sad to see all these disasters!!!!!
Why is this happening?

63..yes I've heared. It's even on the news here in the Netherlands. We've send three helicopters..I hope they will do more. I don't like this news at all..my second country (well yeah..that's how it feels huh) burning. Terrible!
The shot is good..but ofcourse, the contents are far away from. I wish the fires will go out rapidly..I'm really following the news.

Πόση τσίχλα στο μυαλό υπάρχει άραγε, πόση στενομυαλιά και ποια κίνητρα αξίζουν τέτοιας έκτασης καταστροφή; Αναρωτιέμαι αν μας αξίζει αυτός ο τόπος...Κατάγομαι από την Λακωνία και όπως και εσύ βίωσα την δραματική αυτή κατάσταση ,λυπήθηκα, εξοργίστηκα...αντιλαμβανόμενη πως ένα μεγάλο γεωγραφικό διαμέρισμα της χώρας γίνεται στάχτη...Ας ελπίσουμε ότι πλέον θα μειωθεί η αδιαφορία και οι άνθρωποι που χάθηκαν άδικα κ οι πράσινες εκτάσεις που καταστράφηκαν θα μας κάνουν να πονέσουμε περισσότερο αυτά τα κομμάτια γης που έχουμε παραλάβει!
