Photographer’s Note

Hydra prides itself on disallowing motor vehicles, except for the two trash city collection trucks, which seem to be everpresent. The donkey is the traditional and preferred mode of transportation, both for personal and commercial freight. As you can see when you compare this confident fellow with the very uncomfortable tourist in the WS, the sidesaddle technique requires some practice before one is able to pull it off with any degree of class. Of course, donkey business requires it's own methods of pollution control!

A typical scene of Greek islands daily life... mule riding is not as simple as it looks! Strong light well controlled and vivid colrs.

Larry,
quite funny your remark regarding the donkey's pollution control. You're so rigth - that can be a real ordeal to keep a town clean when this is the only method of transport.
The donkey being so dark makes it a real challenge in balancing the light conditions. it gives the impression of underexposure, but I'm sure increasing the exposure time would burn the man and background terribly. At the end you did a good compromise.

HEhehe, very funny this one, this must be quite the charm on this island, despite the obvious cleaning problems it may cause, it's much more natural :D
I'm not sure I'd willingly ride sideways tough, I'm much more comfortable in classic saddle thank you :)
