Liebfrauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) in Frankfurt/Main.

I know it is not a perfect architecture photo though the beautiful church in late Romanesque/early Gothic style would deserve it. It would need more space and more serious environment. But this kind of presentation seems to be more adequate for the fast developing metropole - and for the history of this church as well. Medieval churches often have several (or very long) building periods but the past of this building is really adventurous.

1318: start of construction by the aid of a foundation of Mayor von Wanebach, ready in less than 7 years
1425: the southern facade was rebuilt (that is the original one lasted only 100 years)
1453: the tower was built
1506-1509: choir part rebuilt
1658: renovation of the (again) southern part
1719: church partially destroyed
1770: tower collapsed then rebuilt
1861: renovation
1885: renovation
1939: renovation
1943: destroyed by World War II.
1954: the whole church rebuilt
1986-1989: renovation
In the intervals between construction/renovation periods used as a Roman Catholic church.

Hello my friend Laszlo,
Very impressive to the church in the middle of city that close to the open market!
and looks like a lot high rise buildings are coming up at the back of the church!
I liked this image is a soft and gentle lighting with great sharpness, good colour and superb details to view and enjoy!
the note is a great help to understand the history of this church!
many thanks for the sharing
warmest regards from NZ
Tony

Hallo Lásló!
You show this church in its surroundings - surroundings as they are today...
All these tower cranes show very well what happens there in Frankfurt around this venerable building. It nearly seems to be out of place. I like that one can see many architectural details of this church. A good presentation ...
Greetings from summerly and sticky Siegen!
A nice weekend to all of you!
Frank

Ciao Laszlo,

Lieben Gruss, Ulf

hello Laszlo,
nice snapshot of the works of the Church of Our Lady, with a lot of cranes to 'pierce' the sky over the church. As i see,the life of the people don't govern from the construction.I like the colors and the light.Well done.

Regards,Danos

Hello Lazlo,
An image of this great church of beautiful architecture and the comings and goings of people around him. What a pity that the cranes damaged vision, but part of the everyday landscape that sometimes are not easy to avoid.
Best regards,
Charo

Hello Laszlo,
The dignity, and excellent proportions of this building is still maintained - even with all the activity around it. The cranes are a feature of modern city life and give a sense of continuity ( not always the same as 'progress'!)
Your shot is remarkably clear and detailed, and your note very helpful.
Best wishes....Maggie

Lazlo,
Nice shot of this great church with it's modern surroundings. From the looks of the cranes the surrounding will be getting even more modern.
The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail.
TFS,
Asa
