Photographer’s Note
Sport has it that the result of a competition is never sure in advance and the joy of the victory on one day can quickly turn into great disappointement the next day...
This image focuses on the positive vibrations of sport, the victory of the German team last wednesday was of course celebrated in the little town where I was staying. The good thing with the UEFA is that they had scheduled the match conveniently to leave me do my blue hour shooting without being disturbed, virtually the only person in town not watching the match. But as I heard them screaming I knew I had to turn myself into a photojournalist to capture the moment and share it here, anyway given the noise sleeping was not an option !
Note that this moment celebrates a football victory with associated national pride and the dominance of the schwarz-rot-gold german flag colors but it could also be any other event of symbolic importance for the nation, I could also tell you this scene was shot in Berlin in 1989, what counts is finally not the event but the fact it unites people around their national pride.
This image is to answer some questions I got asking whether I had been able to sleep. Also I have nothing against Spaniards Amigos, just I do not have spanish supporters in stock ;-) To you I'll just say congratulations !

Unusual and topical shot, with an interesting thoughtful note, very much in tune with the sometimes forgotten TE mission statement.

Bonjour KilometreTerror,

Salut Jean Yves,
Yeah too bad for the German team but the best team won! Nice image with very nice details for a night shot. The emotion of the supporters is felt in this image as it show us what pride and emotion for one's sport is like. Good work JY.

Hello Jean Yves,
This is an effective bit of photojournalism. Your picture captures the fever and pageantry of the championship event. The colors are wonderful. The focus is a bit soft, but then a shot without a flash, 1/13 second in duration, and an aperture of f/3.2 cannot be expected to produce better resolution.
Have a good week,
Bulent

Hello Jean-Yves,
Bien vu !

Fine composition with the flag, Jean-Yves. Not sure if it would hold up enlargement but looks good here. Did you tweak the WB? Regards,

Monsieur Rorue,

Hi Jean-Yves,
Adding salt to the wounds?
That eagle is a well chosen main focal point. Joyful gathering, I like those hands up here and there. I guess you've done some noise filtering to this high ISO shot. So last night was still noisy? I wonder if we get to see documents from Spain too.

Hej JY
the Eagle and the bull
One to Null.
You said you didn't had any pictures of celebrating spanish supporters, well thats not the most important thing, but you reacting by posting a picture from the biggest 2008 event in Europe and i thinks that's brilliant because it shows that this TE is living and that we (You) not only digging in archive but acting with your camera contemporary and that give a certain presence.
Thank for that!

Hi Jean Yves,
I didn't see the match, but it seems Spain was the better team, so not much to complain for the Germans. I like the two in front with the flag over their shoulders while others were still in the mood of winning the cup.....not ;-)

Guten Abend Herr Von Terror,

Hola Jean Yves.
Sorry for the Germans, but after 44 years without winning an Euro tournament I think Spain deserves it plus they played very well. Your shot is very good, very well captured with good colors, clarity and POV.
Well done. TFS.
Best regards.

Cath.
