Our office team had a barbecue last night on the shores of the Isar river here in Munich. While my co-workers were busy digging into the meat and sausages, I watched this little fellow who was practicing his rock-throwing technique.
The shores of the Isar, particularly near the zoological garden, are very popular with locals for barbecues and picnics as well as walking, jogging, biking, and sunbathing. There are even some nudist areas... Although the river level is too low for swimming, it's a great place to cool off on hot summer days or nights.
Some additional info on the river (from Wikipedia):
The Isar is the fourth largest river in Bavaria, Germany, right tributary of the Danube. After the Inn river, it is the third most important tributary of the Danube river in Germany and is 295 km in length. The name Isar appears to be derived from the Celtic word Isaria (meaning torrential).
Origin: Eiskarlspitze, Alps, Austria.
Mouth: Danube
Basin countries: Germany, Austria
Length: 295 km
Source elevation: 1160 m
Avg. discharge: 175 m³/s
Basin area: ±9,000 km² |
