Photographer’s Note

Some 40km southwards along the Romantic Road from the famous Rothenburg ob der Tauber is Dinkelsbühl, a real jewel with an immaculately preserved townscape of 15-17C. In contrast to its neighbour, it has somehow managed to avoid being overrun by tourists (and this is refected in the fact that this is only third upload from Dinkelsbühl on TE) and thus has a rather more authentic air. The town walls with more than 20 towers survive intact, and even the side streets are flawless, sometimes verging on clinical, while on the four main streets almost every building is an architectural treasure. My next several posts will be from this town, which was the main discovery during our last trip to Germany. We were so lucky to base ourselves in this town for four days and explore the region from there. The only drawback was the weather; except for one morning, it was grey and dull, so for this image I boosted saturation a bit to present the colours better. Maybe no architectural jewels here, but these houses are typical of Dinkelsbühl's side streets and I found them quite photogenic...
