Photographer’s Note
This Church in Speyer was built to commemorate the "protestation" by several German princes in Speyer in the 1520's to German Emperor Charles V. Religion was at the heart of the protestation with Germany undergoing a period of "spiritual turbulence" in consequence of the conflict between the Catholic Church and the teachings of Martin Luther. It was a great historical event which ultimately led to the schism in the Roman Catholic Church and the seperation of the Protestants.
The Church is a relatively new structure, having been built around the year 1900. It is one of the most splendid Churches I have visited. The numerous large stained glass windows inside are especially beautiful and glow with vibrant colours. One can stare at them for hours! The exquisite craftsmanship of the pillars and ceiling is also something to be admired and remembered life long.
As some renovation work was taking place outside, I had to take the photo in such a way that the scaffolding was hidden from view.
