The Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche or Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church is one of Berlin's most famous landmarks. The damaged tower is a constant reminder of the destruction of war.
The church is located the center of former West-Berlin center and shopping center of Berlin.
The church was built between 1891 and 1895 by Kaiser Wilhelm II, designed by Franz Schwechten, the church was a symbol of Prussian unity and a mark of honor for his grandfather, Kaiser Wilhem I.
After allied bombing in November 1943, only the broken west tower of the church was still standing. Local opposition saved the structure from demolition in the 1950s and in 1961 a new, octagonal church designed by Egon Eiermann was built alongside the existing tower. The new church is a reinforced concrete structure with blue-colored glass bricks.
PS: Not a very original title for this picture but it is the most correct one. |

Suggestive image, and the contrast of subjects is very appealing.
Excellent sharpness and good afternoon light.

Hej Clemente,
A good capture of this famous church, that I found quite impressive when I saw it in Berlin myself. It's a very nice combination of old and new (indeed a correct title :-)) architecture and you got a fine background too. Well done!
Regards,
Lars
Nice photo.
The POV is great, the colors are perfect and the sharpness is excellent.
Congratulations!!!
Kostas.
Hola Clemente,
Hi Clemente, good composition, colors and POV at this interesting photo!
