I took this in the Cologne Cathedral / Kölner Dom today...
... I guess a long note about hight, length and construction time is not necessary, I would only repeat what other members wrote here many times.
The cathedral is definitely a fascinating building and it makes me shiver every time I see it... the millions and millions of details and the great artwork inside and outside. Today I saw that they started to clean it part by part and what a wonderful view would that be if the Dom could be completly white again.
Thank God it's allowed now to take pics inside but you should do this with respect and without disturbance to those who wanna pray.
The aisles (Seitenschiffe) are looking like chapels with sculptures and pictures of saints and scenes of the bible, with seats to pray and candleholders where you can light candles for... whatever.
On the left side of the front entrance there is a little alcove with this sculptures of Jesus, Mary, Magdalena... there are white papers and pens and if you like you can write a letter to the Lord and put it in a little box, light a candle and pray for whatever is on your mind (or heart).
I guess somebody climbed over the barrier and put the letter in the Lords hand... maybe to give the words on the paper a special meaning.
I know in this world we are living in we forget to pray sometimes for te things we really, really want... and more than this we forget to thank for the things we have. Today I saw many people writing letters in this place (me too), maybe because it's easier to do it this way.
Do you know this song... "Shout to the Lord..." ? =)
I wish you all a nice and relaxing week =)
