Photographer’s Note
Please press F11 for full screen view...
Here, the photographer is located facing the sidewall of Komödchen (not Opera House, thanks Nino for correction), waiting for his prey. Here comes one, running probably for personal care, and the idea of capturing him in front of some Greek Goddesses (Muses) was what appealed me a lot. Though the Muses are much more into fine arts rather than sports, they also looked interested in a figure runnig flyinglike in front of them...
Some of the athletic events, such as running, come natural to Mankind. Jumping, whether long or high, is but an extension of what we sometimes had to do to make our way in the world and javelin throwing is an abstraction from what our ancient ancestors did during the hunt. Sport thus largely fits in three categories: some are “natural” (running, swimming, etc.), some originated from the hunt or war (boxing, wrestling, etc.), whereas others are abstract (hockey, handball, etc.) Many of these sports would therefore go back to the beginnings of Mankind, perhaps in origin being nothing more or less as preparation for a great hunt that the tribe was about to perform. Its origins are lost in the mists of time. Still, it is sports and the Olympic Games, that was the first event that marked the start of Greek history. The year of first Olympiad, 776 BC, is indeed the first accurately attested date in Greek history. As such, sports, and the Olympic Games, are thus seen as a Greek invention and the backbone of this civilisation.

Hi Deniz,
This is Chariots of Fire!!! Great catch and perfect timing where the runner actually fly! Sometimes, symmetrical composition impose themself and it’s a good example of how efficient it can be.
I like the B&W conversion, which seems to be perfect, to my humble and neophyte opinion.
Best regards!

Hi Deniz,
Excellent note, I really enjoyed reading it.
Also your photo looks great, catching him in mid air is a terrific achievement, brings life to the photo, and contrasts beautifully with the weight and immobility of those statues... great shot.

That's what a pre breed photographer does…
Waiting for the right moment.
Some smart (about photography) aleck once said:
"You find yourself a nice background, you don't worry about the foreground - it'll compose itself (:-)))"
Well - it seems to me like you took very good care about both elements…
And once you've done just that - you took care about presentation of your babe to the public…!!!
Well - it seems to me like you took very good care about ALL THREE elements…
Great photography, Deniz…
So rare (therefore more precious).
Have yourself a wonderful day

Niggly things Dennis - like the burn on his shirt and the position of the figure in the frame - I think I'd prefer him more to the right with more space to run into (I don't like the way he collides with the pedestal so much either) but you've caught the moment of his running pattern really well - it's an image I like really well for subject and moment but I feel there could have been a better moment - a better split second when that finger hit the button - it was a near run thing - (sorry about the pun) but you didn't quite get the winner's podium on this one.
best wishes Kev

A very nice shot from my city. Well done, Deniz. The jogger gives the place life. A little correction: it's not the opera house, it's a theatre (Komödchen) and a museum.
Best wishes,

Merhaba Deniz,
Another amazing shot from you...Here again, in the same way that always as u do , each item in your photo, also the title and excellent note have an effect on the whole, and work together to create a work of beauty.
Your special way of using of light, choosing the sidewall of Dusseldorf Opera House as background, capturing a man runnig flying-like(foreground, timing) in front of those mythological goddesses are great. Dark sepia tone like B&W adds too much to this photo.
Thanks for the journey to the 1950s, u really gave me that feeling like back to back, to time of Emil Zátopek(was a Czech athlete probably best known for his amazing feat of winning three gold medals in athletics at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. He won gold in the 5 km and 10 km runs, but his final medal came when he decided at the last minute to compete in the first marathon of his life.
Zátopek was the first athlete to break the 29-minute barrier in the 10 km run (in 1954). Three years earlier, in 1951, he had broken the hour for running 20 km. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest runners of the 20th century and was also known for his brutal training methods. Who is considered one of the greatest long-distance runners in the history of the sport, and also known "The Locomotive" or the "Bouncing Czech")
Thanks for sharing....Gülten

Yes yes, I can feel the Olypimcs (althoughthe muses and the runner don't really go together, but the title gives a good impression)! The grim statues and the runner are great composition together.
I also like that strange B&W "colouring".

Merhaba Deniz,
Selamlar

Very well thought out image. You chose an excellent place to lie in wait for the right moment. Maybe to be perfect you should have hit the button a split second earlier for perfect symmetry, but I bet when you made your decision to press it was symmetrical (thought > action delay) I imagine too that the scene was fairly monotone and the runner could be from the 50s judging by his attire, making your decision to present the image in B&W a good one. Good work

great shot Deniz..sort of similar I guess to my umbreall in that its pretty much the simplest of photographic street photo sitations: person moving across a backdrop. That is something thats probably been done to death, Im guilty of it, VERY guilty. But it works, it continues to draw us even though weve seen thousands of these sorts of photos. The framing is great. The backdrop choice too, the women play well of the lonely guy. Very dynamic.

Hi Deniz, i have seen this picture at least 3 times ... and i'm still not sure about how to think about it .. No mistake shot, good compo and a work in BW. Symetric aspect which is a delight for my cartesian brain but .. i think there is a little but : There is perhaps not enought "link" between those statuesand the runner .. Even writing that i'm not sure of what i write ;)
For sure thisis a good shot but it doesn't push me make a "wow" as i'm used to do watching your pictures
For sure the next one will :)

Your sharp eye caught a really special moment which for the most of the people it would have been unnoticed.
It's really a very good shot which give exactly the feeling you want to give to us.
That what I like more are the serious faces from the muses who look like that they are not interesting at all for the runner.
Your note is a pleasure to read.

Hi Deniz,
This is an excellent shot! The well balanced composition with the statues on either side is very good. The movement and action of the man cauhgt in mid air is simply great and very well timed. The vertical format enhances the height of the statues and we get a good snese of how big they are. And finially the black and white was a very good choice to bring out thw wonderful textures and details and make an old world sort of feeling to the shot.
