the word "graffiti" derives from the Greek word graphein meaning: to write...this evolved into the Latin word graffito...graffiti is the plural form of graffito...simply put, graffiti is a drawing, scribbling or writing on a flat surface... it is usually equated with the "New York" or "Hip Hop" style which emerged from New York City in the 1970's...
today, graffity has its own culture ; language, terms, tools...and is all around the world I guess...
Berlin is covered with graffiti...on such high walls of high buildings that I could not understand how they were done...also in all the alleyways...

Very good note, updating us all on Graffiti. And this picture is wonderfull, the naive skecthings are probably made by an adult who wanted a littel colour in that alley.

Simple childlike effective....done in all probability by a man with fishing on his mind...adolescent during the Flower power days!!
Great capture...considering your limited stay there....
Additional notes thru history...you might find interesting:
The term graffito also applies to drawings or inscriptions casually inscribed on walls. Graffiti of this nature are abundant in ancient Egyptian and Roman art and have been found in Pompeii and the Roman catacombs. Many casual ancient graffiti, scratched on walls by passers-by, have been unearthed, the most famous of which is a caricature of Christ on the cross, found on the walls of the Domus Gelotiana on the Palatine Hill in Rome in 1856. The impulse to paint, draw, or write on walls, to express political beliefs, or commuicate with an anonymous audience, is also manifest in today's urban environment, where it is often perceived as a scourge.

Light, funny, with vivid colours, reminds me of children. I like it.

the wall is beautifully painted, really well spotted, shame the bars are on the window though

Thank for the origin of the word, and the picture has quite a lot, a plant, what appears to have been a tap, a window or what is left of it, a lot of colors.

hi fusun :)
well, i somehow like the opposition between bars and the childlike grafitti.
it depicts very well our times of violence and hope.
colors are excellent, and the notes (yours and ttmountainman´s) are excellent.

This is so darn cute. The charming fish play off against the bars on the window (and win!), the awful green bricks on the righ just creeping in, but if only, if only the top of the window hadn't been cropped out....?
