[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A good example to see how narrow those villages are in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, is Kaub. The village of Kaub is close to Castle Pfalzgrafenstein and as you see, has another castle on the hill, called Burg Gutenfels. Kaub has around 1000 inhabitants living in houses which are built related to two or three streets in parallel to the Rhine. The map function shows this in higher resolution. But even narrow those places were used by humans since a long time. Kaub covers several tracks of first settlement in pre-Christian times. Kaub was first noted in 983 by a certificate of Imperator Otto the Second with the original name Cuba.
Kaub covers also one step of younger European history. In the night of the New Year to 1814 Russian Pioneers built here a pontoon bridge for the Silesian Army commanded by Field Marshal Bluecher. This crossing of the Rhine led at least to the first capitulation of the French Army under Napoleon Bonaparte middle of 1814.

Ein gutes Beispiel, um die Enge der Ortschaften im Oberen Mittelrheintal zu erkennen, ist Kaub. Die Gemeinde Kaub liegt direkt bei Burg Pfalzgrafenstein und hat ,wie Ihr seht, eine weitere Festung auf dem Hügel, genannt Burg Gutenfels. Kaub hat ungefähr 1000 Einwohner die in Häusern entlang zweier oder dreier Straßen parallel zum Rhein wohnen. Die Mapfunktion zeigt Euch dies in höherer Auflösung. Trotz des begrenzten Platzes wurde diese Gegend schon lange von Menschen genutzt. In Kaub zeigen verschiedene Spuren auf vorchristliche Besiedlung. Kaub wurde erstmalig von Kaiser Otto dem Zweiten erwähnt in einer Urkunde, damals noch unter dem ursprünglichen Namen Cuba.
In Kaub liegt ebenfalls ein Stück jüngerer Europäischer Geschichte. In der Nacht auf Neujahr 1814 bauten Russische Pioniere hier eine Pontonbrücke für die Schlesische Armee unter Feldmarschall Blücher. Diese Rheinüberquerung führte dann zuletzt zur ersten Kapitulation der Französischen Armee unter Napoleon Bonaparte in der Jahresmitte von 1814.

Hello Ulf,
A superb panoramic view of this village strung out along the river side with vineyards behind. Difficult to believe it is all one shot. Excellent colours and clarity.

Deutschland aus dem Bilderbuch: Wein, Burg, gemütliche Häuser, der Rhein ...! Ein wirklich schönes Panorama! Vor allem wirkt hier der so lebhaft geschwungene Horizont. Ein rundherum gutes Foto!

das Panorama mit dem Bergeinschnitt der wie ein "V" aussieht ist sehr gut gelungen. Es ist wie ein SPiel zwischen der Burg und den Weinbergen auf der anderen Seite. Einfach schön

The wide angled panoramic format suits perfectly here. Perhaps I would add some yellow to the landmass area of the image, to warm it a little? Good sharpness & pov. Tfs!

This little town is a real beauty and you did a great shot from a distance. Beautiful row of houses by the river and wonderful balance of the two hills, one with the Castle and the other with a beautiful pattern effect from the cultivated fields. I'm loving the series.

Hi Ulf,

I think this is an absolutely wonderful image . the small village hugging the shore against the immensity of the nature around them and the passage of time above them .. tremendous ..

that said .. I would go for a pinch more river in the foreground it would help make the point .. and I would move your signature to the opposite corner away from the tower.
