Many times we find and shoot convergent lines, due to the laws of perspective, but in this case these corridors are divergent when seen together as in the shot.

A strange feeling, instead of a vanishing point deep in the distance, I felt I was standing on the vanishing point, and that the lines were coming to me...

Or, alternatively, that there were two vanishing points, one on each side, for actually WITHIN each separate corridor - the lines are indeed convergent.

So there is actually a combination of divergent and convergent effects here: concentrate the eye at the column in the middle and the divergent effect is dominant; look at the empty small "holes" at the back of each corridor and the convergence is then the main effect.

All this due to the geometry and symmetry of the 24th floor of the triangular Kollhoff Tower, in Berlin's Potsdamer Platz.

I took a few shots and chose this one for the post, with a small human presence in one of the corridors, so it can be immediately understood that these are two different corridors: a shot with no humans looks like a kind of reflection or mirror; a shot with a person closer to me is distracting and spoils the visual effect.

I had captured the full height of the column in the middle, leaving a small space of floor in which the corridors join together, but I chose to crop from the bottom, leaving the corridors separated, so they theoretically merge in the eye of the viewer.

I love these kinds of places with divergent lines. It lends itself to be shot at a nice wide angle wich totally ehnances the geometric impact thereof. The emptyness on one side and people on the other is good. Id like to suggest somebody in the FG rather than far off in the distance.

Hi, Daniel,
It is a great idea, the composition has an excellent geometry playing with the convergent lines and the divergent lines that form these two corridors in a triangular floor, and fitted well into your setting.
An alive corridor, with people, and another one empty, in a great contrast.
Good work to control this difficult light, with good result.
Good photo, my friend.
Best regards,
Josep
