Photographer’s Note
My third entry to the Scavenger Hunt - April, 2004
- 5th Category: The tallest building in any particular city.
I took this shot during the Hamburg Marathon. This is right before the finish line. In the background you can see the finish. The runners here have a time of about 4,5 hours.
That Hamburg TV tower, officially Heinrich Hertz tower (designated in honours of the physicist originating from Hamburg) is with distance the highest tower of the Hanseatic city with an overall height of 279,80m, whereby the conical concrete shank ends in 204m over the ground. Following its traditional landmark Michel (Michaelis church) the people call it Tele Michel.

I like how you shot this, Jan. The people are very colorful in their running clothes. The trees add to that and it's against a great sky. I like that somewhat dark sky. And the road has great perspective. It really makes the tower stand out as their goal. RUnning to it and then up it! That would be really grueling. And just seeing it like this and knowing you're going there but still so far away would be grueling, too, I'd think. Very nicely done.

Candid, with the hand in the bottom left. Good 'old & new' theme shot.

Very good shot of the Telemichel for the "hunt", Jan. Showing it embedded into the HH Marathon works really well - everybody seems to be running to it ;-) I also like to see the roadside details of the event, such as the spectators and the oversized sneaker. Colors and detail are excellent. Well done.
