Photographer’s Note
Taken from an inside observing plattform of the St. Petri church through a bulleye window. Steps up to get there 540 ! No elevator available.
As fitting a seaside- and sailors` city, water plays an important role all over Hamburg. Most of the time, one thinks of the harbour in this context. Nonetheless, there is a water in the city`s heart, whose value concerning leisure and recreation is by far greater. The Alster, a dammed-up side-river of the Elbe. Where else can you cruise on a steamship or go on a canoe-tour, or sail right in the city centre ?
Postprocessing in PScs: Autolevels an unsharp mask, I also ran it through neatimage as the Kodak cam I have is really aggressive with their jpg output.
A new cam Minolta A2 is ordered :)

An interesting and very well composed panoramic view.
I also appreciate the nice deep blue of the water.
And the fountain in the left is like a signature of the photo ;-)
Very well done, Jan !

This is a lovely panoramic shot of Hamburg, Jan. The stillness and darkness of the water is excellent. Even at this distance the fountain looks very beautiful - well captured. I find the buildings in the bottom right corner very interesting. Well done.

Hi Jan, good to know I'll get a new cam ;-). A great panoramic with this horizon at the topmost. The deap blue water is surrounded by the buildings and bridge painting an interesting line which leads to the background. A very nice composition.

Nice landscape. Good placement of the bridge in the centre to connect the 2 halves. Panorama crop works well also.

Great bird's eye view across Hamburg, Jan. The Alster takes appropriate center stage here, with some boating activity visible. The old buildings on either side are well captured, and the fountain at the bottom left is a fine detail. Agree with John that a large panoramic version would to this view even more justice. Great colorful shot, thanks for taking the 540 stairs up to snap this and share it here ;-)

Nice ostensibly quiet shot Jan, that on closer inspection is full of interest and detail.
Having the full length of the bridge just below 1/2 way makes the cmposition.

Very nicely done. It captures the expansive water at the heart of the city. And it appears in a nice deep blue. The city looks so neat and orderly around it. And it doesn't obscure the water. The water is right there. You can access it which is something not possible in many places in many American cities. Like my panorama A Bit of Luck... is along our waterfront, which is very nice too, is basically what most of it looks like. The Canadians across the river make much better use of it. This gives your waterfront a very inviting look and the fountain is neat. Your point of view is also like you're in a helicopter. Like you're hanging over the city rather than in a building. Nicely done.

Très joli panorama de Hambourg Jan. L'angle est bien choisi et la présentation du pont est agréable à l'oeil. Well done.

A nice view of your city, Jan. Makes me long for the next time I will visit (which will have to be next time our camper goes in for service - we bought it in Hamburg and keep taking it back there for service on our way to Denmark). Someday we'll climb those steps as well.

very good panoramic shot! I like this small fountain from water. Several years ago in Russia also began to appear similar.
Very interesting foto.
