Photographer’s Note

It took this picture in the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, also known as the Holocaust Memorial. It is a memorial in the centre of Berlin.

It is located in the area were the Imperial Chancellery of Adolf Hitler used to be.

The memorial is designed by Peter Eisenman and. It consists of a 19,000 square meter site covered with 2,711 concrete slabs, arranged in a grid pattern on a sloping field.

According to Eisenman, this field with concrete slabs is designed to produce an uneasy, confusing atmosphere.

Under the memorial, there is a "Place of Information" and a museum. The memorial is open for the public since May 2005.
