Lindau is a German city and an island in the eastern part of the Lake Constance, the Bodensee. The historic city of Lindau is located on the 0.68 km² island which is connected with the mainland by a bridge and a railway dam.
Remains of an early Roman settlement of the 1st century have been found in the district of Aeschach. The name Lindau was mentioned first by a St. Gallen monk in a document in 882 stating that Graf Adalbert von Rätien had founded a nuns' monastery on the island.
In 1180 the church St. Stephan was founded. In 1224 the Franciscans founded a monastery on the island. In 1274/75 Lindau became an Imperial Free City under Holy Roman Emperor Rudolph I. In 1528, Lindau accepted the Reformation. After the Thirty Years' War, in 1655 the first Lindauer Kinderfest (children's festival) was held in memory of the war time.
After liquidation of the Holy Roman Empire, Lindau lost its status of an Imperial Free City in 1802. The city went to Karl August von Bretzenheim who gave the city and monastery to the Kingdom of Austria in 1804. In 1805 Austria returned the city to Bavaria. In 1853 the railway dam was built to the island. In 1856 the city built a new harbour with its characteristic land marks, the lighthouse and the lions sculpture.
In 1922 the independent districts of Aeschach, Hoyren and Reutin were integrated in the city. After World War II the city was under French administration. In 1955 Lindau again returned to Bavaria.
Today Lindau is located near where the three borders of Austria, Germany and Switzerland meet. It is nestled under the mountain Pfänder of the Alps in the lake. Due to its historic medieval city center and the pleasant location in Lake Constance, Lindau is a popular place for sightseeing tours and holidays. Annually a meeting of Nobel Prize Winners (see Meeting of Nobel Laureates in Lindau) and a congress of medical physics is held in the city. A further attraction is the casino owned by the state of Bavaria.

Some typical architecture well captured!
I like the framing, including both sea and land...
Strong vivid colours in a fine composition, a lovely summer atmosphere!

Nice sunny photo with a happy summer atmosphere. The composition is good, but I somehow have the feeling that you have cropped a bit too much of the bottom. I think it would have looked better with the bottoms of the boats and with some water on the foreground.
Thanks for sharing,

Great scene, idyllic town and harbor, George. If I had one of those boats on a beautiful day like that, it would not be moored!

A nice busy shot with a lot to see. I like the orange boat in the foreground matching the orange roofs in the background.

A beautiful capture of the Harbour but it is the red buildings in the BG that really breathes life into this picture. Well Done!

Fantastic colors here. Your POV, with the boats situated in the foreground, was well chosen. Good balance as well...you've kept the whole scene nice and straight along the horizon. Also, the orange cover of the boat in the foreground mimics the orange of the rooftops behind. Great contrasts throughout. The exposure is well handled also and gives you great saturation all through the scene.

Fantastic view of this harbour.
Extraordinary variety of strong colours here.
The strong red tones of the roof tops really contrast with the soft blue tones of the sky.Nice light and contrast.

I've always thought that you can't go wrong with harbour scenes, and this just goes to prove it.
The boats fill the foreground nicely, and the attractiveness of the old buildings behind only makes this better.
Good colours and light as well.
