Photographer’s Note
Here I think I have the same problem that Din had with his F1 photo. The speed is not really captured with that short shutter speed. It looks like they are standing still. Tomorrow I will post a picture with motion blur (first try ever).
These cars were racing down the Neuer Jungfernstieg right in the inner city (downtown) with the worldwide known Hotel "Four Seasons" in the background around that slight corner. If everything goes well and politicians agree we will have a real DTM race next year, not only a show race. That will be Monaco in Hamburg :)
Please also take a look at the other pictures of the mini-series: #1, #2, #3, #4, #6, #7
Post processing in PS6: Autolevels and unsharp mask.

Composition is still v good. Try a slow shutter speed eg 1/30 sec, & use a tripod / cable release. Another option is to pan the camera in sync with the cars. That way, the cars are sharp but everything else is blurred. You may have to make friends with one of the drivers to get a really good shot like this, or take it side on. Good luck whatever you decide.

Jan it just doesnt convey the feel of speed but apart from that, cars, colors and spectators are nicely captured.
i have tried the pan technique a lot of times, it's very difficult to get the moving object sharp, you will see ;-)

It seems that your intention was to convey movement, but this 'still' picture is also nice. The cars stand out against the dull buildings in the background, and the many people all around give it the sence of a race track.
I'll be waiting you blured pic.

While the photograph doesn't convey a lot of motion, it definitely has something of a "Monaco goes Hamburg" feel to it, Jan ;-) The horsepower monsters amidst the urban setting and backed by the watching crowd make for a nice scene by all means. A funny detail I like is the orderly pattern made by the security guys in their shiny yellow vests. Well captured, and I'll be checking for the upcoming "motion blur" shot.

I think the pan idea is best here Jan. Motion blur on the subject can be counter-productive, unless just on the wheels. Also I have noticed race car pictures on corners can also show speed by the tilt into the corner.
Unfortunatly my motor racing photo exped today (www.v8supercars.com.au) was cancelled due to rain :( Not the race, but the family keeness to sit in the rain while Dad (me) takes photos all day. Maybe next time.

Dear Jan,
Well I think you should do what ChrisJ suggested, try 1/60 sec. or less.... Anyway I really like racing car espacially the DTM! :D
It looks great anyway.
