[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Monument to the Murdered Jews of Europe (by US architect Peter Eisenman) is a sprawling field of 2,700 stone slabs near the Brandenburg Gate.

Standing on a 19,000 sq m (204,440 sq foot) patch of land between the East and West Berlin of the Cold War, the new memorial is an undulating labyrinth of stone plinths.

Visitors can move through the tilting featureless stones - each one a unique shape and size - from any direction. There are no plaques, inscriptions or symbols along the way.

The stones have been treated with an anti-graffiti agent that authorities hope will ward off vandals and neo-Nazi sympathisers (Initially the architect felt graffiti could benefit the memorial).

Some said the design was too abstract, while others pointed out that many thousands of non-Jews perished in the Holocaust, but are excluded from mention in the memorial. Others still said the monument's lack of obvious religious symbolism meant that it was not Jewish enough.

In my view as a student of art/arquitecture i believe this is a great mark in history; even being too abstract (or not) the massege still there and came from the german people itself. I find this memorial beautiful for it simple mean of paasing an idea.

Well done Germany!

Hi Rita!
Good panorama view of this new and important monument in Berlin. You were lucky to have some people with red cloth, which give a good contrast with the grey pilars.Perfect sharpness.
Regards,Leo

Hello Rita
I visited this memorial not so long back and also have a picture of it in my gallery. I actually like the memorial although can see why it may be controversial. Here you have provided us a view which indicates the extent of the monument and I take my hat off to you. To photograph this in its totality certainly takes some skill. Very well done!
Best wishes
Mark

superb panorama-shot of this important memorial, rita! :-)
the LP-version is great, so many nice details, well composed,
very sharp and with nice colors.
i will remember this when i am visiting berlin in september.
thanks you & take care, thorsten.

(i guess the impact of the memorial is overwhelming, but
compared to Yad Vashem it will be "small" though.)

Hi Rita,

oh yes, this subject...we should remember...excellent note!

take care, Ivana

Hi Rita
excellent LP, we really feel like we are in the imahe..
well done..
in the thumbnails i knew you had a Canon (because of this pale blue sky...;-)

regards
