Capoeira Boy

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I often see groups of guys on the streets of Berlin doing capoeira, but this group was a bit different. Apparently it was a capoeira club, made up of mostly men but also a girl and this young boy. They had matching t-shirts (featuring a picture of a cow doing capoeira), a nice surface to do their tricks on (instead of cardboard), and a guy with a real drumset to accompany them (instead of just a radio). The colorful hat in this picture was, of course, to collect money.
When I first saw capoeira, I thought it was breakdancing, like what I used to see on the streets of Hartford, Connecticut, when I was growing up. But now I know that capoeira is actually a very old Afro-Brazilian dance form that was around for hundreds of years before the breakdancing of the 1980's. I think capoeira is fascinating to watch, and it's great to see how this old tradition still survives today. |

Are you sure hi is doing capoeira? ‘Cos to me it looks like a break-dance. Even the hat which he is wearing is using by break dancers.

Great one, with good timing and full of movement.
A nice day
