Photographer’s Note
At the end of one of the most expensive local bus-rides from central Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Bavaria, DE), the blue line reaches Eibsee (in German).
The lake itself lies beneath the impressive Zugspitze, which you can see here covered by the white fluffy clouds, and derives it's name from the numerous Eibe (in German), or Yew as called in English, that used to grow amongst its shores. Unfortunately that is no longer the case, only a few ones remain and only in the protected areas.
Unfortunately the day was not clear/still enough for it to appear on this picture, but the water is of an amazing blue/turquoise shade and crystal clear (and extremely cold!).
My first encounter with Eibsee was well over a year ago, yet this was only the second time that I got to enjoy it again.
The orange friend of mine you'll find on my Iceland pictures lives in Murnau, some 30 minutes away from Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He's made me discover amazing places in this little area of Germany, convincing me that this is one of the most beautiful spots on continental Europe... but yes, I know, there's plenty more to see :D
This time around I took a friend from Canada to see the lake, wishing to share a special place where not that many tourists wander off to. The weather was extremely unstable and rain was sitting in the air, waiting for the right moment to fall upon the region.
I readjusted saturation for the save for web version as well as darkened it a bit.
Besides for the absolutely stunning and clear water, I love this place for its forest and amazingly elf-like everything. For the most imaginative ones amongst you, you might see the face in the rock in the foreground. A little bit of an evil head, grinning... :D
As for the buildings by the shore: oh how I wish they weren't there!
An advance Thank You to those amongst you who take the time to comment and/or criticize!

Very nice stop, what a relaxed lake! Nice composition, good colors and definition. Calm elements, and nice atmosphere.

Excellent note Julia, much appreciated.
Your shot is really nice, well composed and full of interest. The fact that the mountain is not reflected in the water does not detract from the picture. The colours in the water an lovely in themselves.
Well done

Beautiful photo of this lovely Bavarian landscape, Julia. The vertical format is well chosen to make the most of the natural elements to be included for the framing, and to convey a deep perspective that starts with the well-included foreground rocks and extends across the water all the way back to the snow- and cloud-capped mountain range. It could perhaps do with a tad more sharpness, but otherwise it's really nice. Great notes, too.

My god that's a stunning photo! Beautifully composed - kinda in fifths rather than thirds (sky, mountains, trees, water and shore), it works really well; and lovely colours.

I'm glad you made the comment about the grimising rock at the end vs. the beginning, and yes, he is delightful. I also like the way you linked the plant info into your story. Very helpful and intersting. I think the buildings are ok. They seem very cabin-like and don't seem to distract very much. They add a nice secondary color. I would live to see more of this "elf'n forest." Nice work!
