Photographer’s Note

This is a part right above the entrance. The writing says: LIBERTATEM QUAM PEPERERE MAIORES DIGNE STUDEAT SERVARE POSTERITAS. Which is freely translated: The freedom, which was earned by the ancients, may be obtained by posterity.

The Hamburg town hall, built in neo-Renaissance style in 1886-97, the magnificent "seat of government" of the city state. The town hall has an impressive size with its total of 647 rooms. Because of the swampy underground the town hall was build upon 4000 wood logs.

Post-Processing in PS6: cropping, colour selection for the golden writing, inverted the selection and desaturated, unsharp mask.
