Photographer’s Note
Two symbols, the cathedral for cologne and the red
wig for the carnival, two things that belong together
since centuries.
The Carnival satisfies a uniquely human desire: namely
that of assuming another identity at least once a year and just letting your hair down, or as the locals say "jeck sein". Cologne has been a traditional stronghold for the Carnival since the Middle Ages. The "fifth season of the year" as it is called, begins on 11th November - the eleventh of the eleventh - and slowly culminates during these "crazy days" into a huge, multifaceted public festival until it ends on Ash Wednesday.

Hi Hermann
What does 'Unter Fettenhennen' translate as? Altavista gave 'under fat hens'! I am guessing under reconstruction?
Fantastic pov with a good splash of red color in the fg to add intrest. Well done!

Hoi Hermann,
Groeten,
John.

Hi Hermann. I like the contrasts here. Carnival and cathedral; red against b&w. Where would the most fun be; in the church or outside...;-))

Excellent composition to utilise the contrast with the wig against the cathedral. At first I thought you had done a partial de-saturation and then I saw the other colours.

Hi Hermann, At the first glance, I thought the sign “Unter Fettenhennen” was hanging to the top of the cathedral. Then, I see the pole to support the sign. An excellent frame using the red head to see that everyone pay their respect to the church, no matter how liberal you are. Nice contrast and excellent depth. Well done.

It is a rather good idea to have this red wig in front of the cathedral, the result is attractive and goes very well with the information in the note.
Well framed too with a definitly good angle

Hej Hermann,
Excellent shot with the whole facade of the Dom. Very stately how the tower fill the composition. The red spot in front is also great. Very well seen and captured, good work!

That's improbable ! I like this red modern head in front of this old massive gothic building. The roadsign is quite interesting too.
Good composition, psychedelic and funny.
