Photographer’s Note
Here is another picture of das Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate) in Berlin, this time seen from the Dome of the Reichstag.
Here is another picture of the Brandenburger Tor.
The little tower you can see on the left is a part of the Reichstag, the trees are part of the park Tiergarten and the square behind the trees is Platz des 18. Marz.
Das Brandenburger Tor is a triumphal arch and was built between 1788 and 1791 by Karl Gotthard Langhans as a sign of peace. The gate is 26 meter high and 65,5 meter broad. On the top there's a quadriga with the goddess of peace driving a four-horse chariot.
More and other information about this church in my other note.
The picture was taken on a winterday and the sun was just about to disappear behind the clouds.
I had to rotate the picture a bit, increased the contrast and sharpened a bit.
Hope you like it!

Lars,
Nice shot! I'm glad you posted this one, because I have never been to Berlin, and had no idea it was surrounded by taller structures until I just saw your photo!
Thanks,
Best of luck,
Matt

Hi Lars, It is a great view from this position and angle. I like the snow covered roof, leaving a clear contrast to all verticle colors. An excellent shot.

Hi Lars,

Hey Lars!
Great picture, to think that not 16 years ago, Berlin was still divided and a wall seperated the two. The only question I have, is where was this picture taken from?
As for technical notes, I really dont have any. I like the crop, and the overall tone, but I think the picture would have been better if it was black and white.
Thanks for sharing

Well congrats on another shot from Berlin. The pov is certainly excellent. I thought the pic needed some sharpening so I did a workshop. I also tried to do something about the overcast sky. Hope you find it useful.

I don't think I have seen the gate from this point of view. It really places it in its surroundings well. The chasm between east and west is still a clearly visible scar. The gate seems so out of place in this environment when seen as a whole. I suppose I always imagined it in more of a neo-classical and dense setting, perhaps more like it may have been before World War II. So it's really nice you show it from here. I like the sharpness here and the details of the urban fabric. Everything seems to dwarf this old monument. Thanks for posting this alternative view of it.

Bonjour Lars,
Berlin est une ville en pleine mutation à voir l'environnement autour de l'édifice principal. Berlin sous la neige semble un peu triste, mais cela doit sûrement refléter la réalité.
Bien vu et merci pour la note.
amitiés.

Hi Lars,
A nice overlooking PoV I did not get the chance to have last time I was in Berlin, as the dome did not exist yet... and the place around the Tor was far less built than now, just a tiny wall passing by... Interesting photo that as already written lacks a bit of sharpening, an issue well addressed by the WS.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Excellent urban landscape. Nice angle of the Gate and good perspective. The building on the left helps for that. Well done Lars

Hi Lars, Nice view of the city and its surrounding areas. It gives an idea of the huge construction going on.

Hoi Lars,
Opnieuw een Berlijns zicht met wat sneeuw er boven op, in feite een hoek dat ik weinig gezien heb maar dit valt bijzonder mee, het is verbazend hoe klein deze mensen zijn in verhouding met de gigantische gebouwen.
Mooi werk hier,
Groeten en bedankt,
John

Very nice perspective, Lars, allowing us to see lots of things and details. Good point of view, colours and contrast between them; also a good note, nice work!

A very different point of view compared to the other one, and more original. The snow cover is nice, but the sky is very disappointing and the building site on the right, not so interesting. But I believe there are still building a lot in Berlin nowadays, especially in the former Russian zone.
All the best,
Emmanuel

Lars bonsoir.

Olá Lars, excellent composition from a good vantage POV. The left side makes strong foreground to lead us through the view and I like the graphism from all the columns of the gate. Interesting how that yellow/orange building stands out in this almost b&w scenery.

ricardo
