Pictured here are the Deutsche Bank Twin Towers situated in the Westend-Süd district of central Frankfurt. This shot is taken from Guiollettstraße which runs along the side of the towers. The view here is of the back of the towers with their main plaza facing the opposite direction onto Taunusanlage.
Designed by Walter Hanig, Heinz Scheid and Johannes Schmidt these towering icons of the cities financial prowess were built between 1978 and 1984. The towers rise dramatically above the city and feature frequently as a backdrop in Media, TV and film showing the importance Deutsche Bank plays in world finance and economics. It is a visual icon of the powerhouse that is German finance.
Though the buildings were initially planned to be a hotel for the Hyatt group, Hyatt pulled out of the development after construction had already began and so the bank decided to set their HQ here. The two towers are sometimes referred to as Debit and Credit (German - Soll und Haben) representing the basis of every financial transaction.
Each tower stands 155 meters (509 feet) in height, even though tower one is 40 stories and tower two is 38 stories tall. The total floor area of the complex is 60,000 square meters.
The design of the building is sympathetic to its lower built residential neighbors (Guiollettstraße being a beautiful quiet residential street dotted with low rise apartment blocks and fine detached homes) , with both towers rising majestically from a low rise base which is lower than the surrounding buildings and integrates well into both the residential spaces and the many parks in this area which forms Frankfurt's central business district called Bankenviertel. These towers are part of a chain of high rise structures which stretches to the Platz der Republik west of here.
The towers were fully renovated between 2007 and 2011 which saw them conform to modern fire standards, and a complete overhaul of the ventilation and heating systems in line with modern designs.
These buildings are among many beautiful skyscrapers that make Frankfurt's horizon quite unique in Europe. It is one of few European cities with a large cluster of high rise buildings, and gives rise to the city sometimes being referred to as Mainhattan (it is built on the river Main). During WWII, much of Frankfurt's city center was destroyed leaving plenty of room for modern development in more recent times.
Its skyscraper boom began in the 1970's and today there are over 290 completed high rise buildings in the city with many more planned.
I am realizing that the Deutsche bank twin towers are likely my favorite of all the skyscrapers I visited on my short trip. There were lots I did not get to see though!
thanks for looking.

The reflecting glass towers soaring into the sky make a dramatic image. Fabulous blue and green shades and the pin-sharpness suits the subject.
Very good image.

Good title for this photo and very informative note! Perfect graphic of the glass&concrete constructions, yes, they are just the symbols of wealth of Germany. I also like this so clever frame.
Have a great new week!

Spectacular shot of these towers that - on account of your pov - seem to symbolise great power too. I liked the saturated colours that go well with the clean linearity of the subject. The background sky adds great atmosphere. Your note is both interesting and informative.
Thanks for this great share.
Have a great new week ahead.

a wonderful dynamic composition to present these fascinating, impersonal giants. The definition of the structures and the glass textures is stunning, you have given them a very firm perspective, they look mysterious and not fragile a t all. I like very much the moody colour palette and the effect of the reflections. The soft and dramatic sky sets them off superbly and another effect I enjoy is the uncertain sense of scale. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great week,

You have treated us to a photograph which is beautifully composed, lifting us skywards, with a pattern of reflective rectangles and bluey/green hues, to enjoy along the way!
My warm regards,
photoray (11451) 2014-08-17 13:25
Impressive skywards glass and skeletal metal towers and similar to the U.S. owned by banks, where a lot of the wealth is.
Would be fun to go to the top.
Thanks for sharing,

Great modern architecture. I like all of the lines and glass windows. The buildings rise up into the sky and become one with it. Nice choice for the POV, too.

Spectaculaire photo d'architecture! Les immeubles des banques sont toujours impressionnants....notre argent doit les intéresser :)

Seeing the photos like this I always wonder, how many windows we see here? Fantastic graphic composition. And such huge glass surfaces offer fantastic reflections. After spooky ruins such towers of wealth must be something very attractive (I prefer ruins :))

Fantastic view of these modern buildings.
The reflections and lights are superb on the buildings.

Thanks for sharing

these two towers look so sleek and beautiful from this POV and against this type of skyscape. I love it when the sky is reflected in a way that it looks like it has penetrated the glass as here. Must admit I would love the opportunity to capture these two amazing buildings too! Lots of controversy about the number of modern buildings planned for London, personally I love them especially when you get shots like this.
Enjoy the week ahead - B.

Very well captured this Deutsche Bank Twin Towers, actually this type of long towers is not easy to shoot but you have done it perfectly. Good color and composition. Well done.

you know i'm going to have to comment on this one right!?
so much about this photo that i like.
the depth, the upwards pov, the criss cross black lines, the clouds, the power and domination in the frame...just perfect.
it still amazes me how many photographers pass up on these shots all the time...glad to see that you didn't

Hello Noel - Your upward looking composition has the effect of making these buildings look as if they are pushing ever upwards to the heavens. I think of the Tower of Babel when men wanted to be as gods...You have captured some lovely reflections in the glass and the buildings (although I am not always a fan of modern architecture) have a simple elegance.
jcpix (13404) 2014-08-20 15:56
I've said it before, and I'll say it again...you're liking of skyscrapers comes through with the results you produce in photographing them. This vantage point and strong upwards point of view works superbly in a horizontal format, filling the frame in both directions, and still leaving ample space in the sky. And those clouds are a sweet compliment against the glass and steel.
I'm scared to death of heights, but I get the urge to scale these buildings like Spiderman. Awesome colors too, the varying shades of blue and deep turquoise are quite soothing. Have a great time over the next couple of weeks, and this shot should provide you with plenty of incentive to always look up! :) Hopefully the package of sun I sent will be there to follow you around. Take care.
Cheers from across the pond,

Imposing attitude shot! Great angular shapes & fantastic perspective add to dramatic feel of the ultra modern glass buildings. Works well with this treatment to emphasise them even more, think it suits the "blue" look and beautifully saturated too. Great work, Congrats.

This is a good example of modern architecture! It's a very pov - the towers look really high and the reflections of the clouds are perfect.

Very modern architecture Noel, imposant towers, excellent resolution, a good memory of your trip in Germany
