Our tour in Germany started in a big spring-rainstorm that lasted 4 days in late May, and many places throughout the country were flooded.
This is early morning scene in Heidelberg, the Nekar river water level was high with rush currents. This is Nekarstaden, where the old Karl-bridge-gate.
Pic. taken under rain, a bit of a miss on this beautiful medieval-town.
Many local people came later with cameras to take pic. of this rare event in their town.
The Nekar river flows west and it's a tributary to the Rhine about 20km distance from Heidelberg
Now the storm had moved to the east, parts of Europe still under heavy rain.

A timely reminder of the floods effecting Eastern Europe even now. I like the point of view and the mix of graphical elements. Also the soft light and understated tones. An image that clearly demonstrates that you can take good pictures in poor weather.

krzychu30 (15258) 2013-06-05 2:16
you had really bad luck with the weather and rain.Sad to see such beautiful town under water.
Like that,an architectural shot takes on a new, documentary meaning. But still even despite such poor weather I´m amazed to see how well you coped with the light and exposure.
Have a nice day

They weren't kidding when they said on the news 'serious floods in Europe'. A good photojournalism shot with excellent sharpness and subdued colours. The fg road adds good lead in lines and perspective. Nice graphism and repetition of the posts at right. Tfs!

Your trip in Germany with a lot water and greatest flood in last 500 year.
You chose a very well angle with the bridge in background.
The arches care for a lovely look through to the background
Excellent composition, good presentation too. TFS.

Welcome back, so this is where you went on holidays, eh? I wondered where you'd gone. And what an interesting reportage photo you bring us. We have heard about the flooding in Europe at the moment, I hope you were okay and got some good weather. The poles in the FG provide a good perspective, although I would have cloned out the striped pole in the mid foreground. You did really well with the light and the image is lovely and sharp with excellent reflections.
Thanks for sharing, have a lovely day
kato (11630) 2013-06-05 5:21
You're capturing well this flood scene by a good cmposition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's impressive to see the flood muddy stream of a river which arose by spring-rainstorm. It turns out that a bank is collapsed and water is overflowing to a road. However, it's a beautiful/long bricks bridge in here. And, it's impressive that many local people are walking on bridge with umbrella.
pierrefonds (54476) 2013-06-05 7:27
The distance from the shore to the bridge is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colours of the architecture of the bridge. The hazy sky and the rain do not hurt to much the output of the colours. I will be out of twn until the afternoon of June 7, have a nice day.

Hallo lieber Ike und willkommen wieder.
You weren't lucky weather-wise that morning but anyway the bridge appears magnificent, surrounded by the foreground artifacts and the foggy decor that create depth around the historic structure!
cornejo (27259) 2013-06-05 10:11
Hello Ike, very good picture of the result of four days of rain, current visual information of what we hear in the news, very well captured in this interesting image, with good sharpness, light and color. Very good and interesting job well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this current work.
Good night and happy week.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

The view really doesn't look nice but you have been able to capture it very well! Good observation and presentation with a superb sense of perspective. TFS.

It wasn't really the best period - what the weather is concerned - to visit Germany. But you couldn't know this in advance. So far it has been a very bad spring in large parts of Europe.
Your picture is a good testimony of the natural misfortune that struck Heidelberg.
It's well composed and shows clearly the high water level and the flooded street.
I hope that the damage for the habitants isn't too bad but I've seen dramatic situations on TV. Further I also hope you were still able to enjoy your visit.
Best regards, Paul

welcome back on TE too! This is the first of the fascinating places you visited and you had the chance to capture it in extraordinary weather conditions. Last time I was in Germany (Munich) it was July and, apart from the first few hours, we spent days under heavy rains and I went around in a borrowed jacket:) I like your composition, its depth and perspective and the way you captured the effect of the rains on the scenery and on daily life. The moody colours are fine. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
carlo62 (26600) 2013-06-05 15:03
Did it cause any damage?
Very nice journalistic photo, well composed and executed. TFS.

Hello Ike. Truly an actual photo from the flood. Every few years, the tide comes back and leaves enormous damage. Your photo shows the situation.
fabbs99 (15625) 2013-06-05 23:30
On such a rainy day ,I reckon its a great work done. The bridge looks grand and the floods add to the mysterious charm of the surroundings.
Perfectly well done. Love it.
All the best,Farhat.

Hi Ike, bad ;luck for you with the rainy weather and tragedy for people who suffered in the flood. But also opportunity for you to be a photoreporter. Interesting and beautiful composition. Nice diagonal lines.
Kielia (22903) 2013-06-06 2:03
what a sad sight! You have chosen an excellent POV to present us nature’s calamity. Your note is very well explaining what has happened here. It is a fascinating photo and an outstanding document!
sandpiper (6788) 2013-06-06 4:52
a shame you had such terrible weather, at least you got to witness an historic event!! Considering the scenario, this is a good shot with some nice architecture in the bridge
adramad (34787) 2013-06-06 10:12
Bad luck your trip to Germany coinciding with so much rain, I'm watching TV image with terrible floods.
This image is a real photo of news reporting with the river overflowed its banks and a strange vision of the bridge, so surrounded by water.
I hope the weather improves you to enjoy such beautiful places.
Ideal good brightness and sharpness.
Have a good day.
nikkitta (12596) 2013-06-06 15:39
So , you were there when the floods, what a bad way to began a trip, anyway your capture is historical and also a king of photo reportage
Like the POV , all bridge and road going in a diagonal way to meet
Well done, TFS

Welcome back Ike! I've apparently lost all track of time, I didn't realize you had already returned!? Glad you traveled safely, and I'm sure had a great time...looking forward to pictures from the trip. :) I like this type of photojournalist imagery, it's a good depiction of natures force. Amazing to think how much in can rain in a certain region...I'm far too accustomed to the dry desert I suppose. Good point of view to realize just how far the river has risen. Happy to have you back my friend!
Cricri (100063) 2013-06-06 23:23
Une image d'actualité, quel malheur pour ces personnes dont les maisons sont inondées..
Bon POV du pont en diagonale, les piquets en cadrage, la montée impressionnante de l'eau, intéressante présentation

a good reportage shot from Heidelberg with all these waters from the big spring-rainstorms that covered almost the most of the middle of Europe. The Nekar river water level looks to dangerous for the city with the overflows to threaten the life and the properties of the natives.
serp2000 (37324) 2013-06-11 10:49
Oh, you went to see a high water in the Central Europa, Ike. Probably that was extreme trip but I think it is not the best weather for the photos. If you are not a reporter.
Greetings fron sunny Corfu!

Dobar dan, popodne.
Lep pogled na most i veliku reku ...
Dobra kompozicija i perspektiva, lepo pokazano mesto i trenutak sa velikom vodom u reci.
Dobar rad, lep stari most.
Prijatno vece i mirna noc, sve najbolje.
Good afternoon, this afternoon.
Nice view of the bridge and a great river ...
Good composition and perspective, nice place and moment shown with high water in the river.
Good work, beautiful old bridge.
Good evening and peaceful night, all the best.
claudeD (30055) 2013-06-16 7:57
very fine picture from Heidelberg showing this difficult situation for all the poor peeople living nearby the river.Against fire we can use water, but against water in this mass we can only wait ... Very well done.TFS.
With regards from Luxembourg

WE heard about the floods on the news programmes. This is a very vivid insight into what was happening!
I remarked to my husband, at the time, " Last time we tried to cruise the Rhine, it was impossible because of drought; this time it could be impossible because of floods!" Happily, the long term forecasts seem to be positive!
A very well composed shot using a good lead line and receding verticals for perspective. There are many details to confirm the wet conditions and I particularly like the parade of umbrellas on the bridge.
My warm regards,
jemaflor (79762) 2013-06-22 8:58
Well framed, good pov and interesting report about this river, Good effect with the perspective.
eldancer1 (24577) 2013-07-02 11:01
When I live in the New Orleans area we used to flooded a lot since the city is below sea level, those are scary time. Nice capture of this river with this old bridge, would love to see river when it's sunny. Good pov and dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.
Robert1969 (6832) 2013-07-07 23:37
The picture shows that we must respect more
the Nature. We can steal from her, we can
poison her etc. etc., but when She shows her
"muscles" we are nothing.
Composition and the point of view are good.
jmdias (51809) 2013-07-12 17:24
very interesting image showing this beautiful bridge and the flood.
here in my region the rivers got their highest levels in the history few days ago, 10 thousand bovines were killed in the mouth of the Ivaí river.
mirosu (12222) 2013-08-01 22:32
This has occurred in many places in Central Europe during last spring. You have well captured the overflowing river. nice view to the bridge. Greetings, Miro
