The Sony Center has to be one of the most amazing, modern and creative public spaces anywhere in EuropeÖor at least that Iíve been able to see for myself!? I was awestruck by the assault on the senses at first look, particularly towards the roof, as seen in this photo.
The elliptical plaza of the Sony Centre 'forum' is the centrepiece of the Potsdamer Platz redevelopment project. It is crowned by a spectacular and innovative roof. This stunning design is meant to extend the use of the plaza during all weather. The space created underneath is not air-conditioned, and the cityís building department demanded special requirements for ventilation and daylighting.
It was important to the architect Helmut Jahn that a roof should cover the plaza like an umbrella. The forum was not meant to be sealed, nor should it disconnect users from an outdoor experience.
The exceptional glass membrane roof rests on a ring beam weighing 500t. The alternating application of glass and fabric on a cable structure spans 102m. Structurally, the roof resembles a bicycle wheel in a horizontal position with a hanging central 42m-long king post, creating a column-free plaza.
For more of a graphic version, Iíve included a black & white copy in the Workshop

This could be a sensory overload indeed when seen in real life for the first time, but what a captivating shot! A well-chosen angle to accentuate the highlights of the design; I particularly like the lines filling the frame. Lovely reflections in the glass window. TFS!

graphically a good shot, good colour from the sky, glad you resisted the temptation to keep everything symetrical.

a striking upwards POV this. The effect is tantalising and full of such mesmerising and wonderful lines. A supreme execution and spellbinding presentation.
Have a great middle of the week - regards Brian.

It took me a while to really understand what I was looking at here, Jason - at first I thought this was a closeup of a satellite dish, in fact, before looking closer. Really nicely framed shot that expresses the strange and awe-inspiring surroundings of the Sony Center. Thanks!

Excellent capture of this beautiful and impressive glass cupola. All the lines and shapes give a great effect. I think you captured it from a very well chosen position and with a pleasing light. Very well done and thanks for sharing.
Have a nice day,

That sure is a very impressive piece of engineering, the architect really had a vision when he dreamed this up. It kind of reminds me of a huge propellor, crossed with a satellite dish. Very nice POV looking up at it like this, it is a great shot, and it gives a nice sense of vertigo. Thanks for sharing this one, I'd not heard of this place!

One my friend wants to go to Berlin on the Christmas time. And I was here in 1999 too. Amazing city with so rich history. Aspecially in the XX century ;)
I can image a joy of every photographer when we have see such wonderful view over the heads... Outstanding quality, perfect graphic. I see you got more 5000 points ;) It could be better to change them for $$ or Euro (or Pounds) , for example. ;))

a great composition, original and fascinating, it describes the architecture, the relationship of the building with the roof covering the plaza and at the same time it has the fascination of an abstract composition of geometrical patterns (maybe this is a contradiction, but I can't find better words...) The play of perspectives and patterns is captivating. I like the play of light and the blue background too, although the b&w version doubles the graphical effect, in my opinion. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
