Photographer's Note

My photo was taken in the village Ebrinxen in the very northeast of the German state Nordrhein-Westfalen. It shows Germany's oldest and biggest linden tree, the "Wittekind-Linde", standing in the church yard of the village.

This lime tree, a Tilia platyphyllos, still is very vital and it has an age of about 800 to 1000 years. It has a height of about 30 metres, its crown has a diametre of 25 metres and the trunk in 2008 has had a circumference of 10,70 metres in a height of one metre. In the last ten years it growed 4 cm each year.

You can see it in summer HERE - and for a scale please look HERE.

A stitch of 3 vertical photos.
