Bicycle autobahn Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is the position of the ancient fortification which enclosed the old town of Münster, a city in northern Westphalia. Münster is called the German capital of bikers and its about 275000 inhabitants possess about 400000 bicycles. Münter next to the railway station has the biggest bicycle parking garage of Germany - for 3300 bicycles .

According to this it simply was consequent to establish something like a "bicycle autobahn" around the old town after having pulled down the fortifications. It is 4,5 kilometres long and it is used by up to 1200 cyclists per hour.
After the seven years'war at the end of the 18th century - the city has been seized several times in its course - the deconstruction of the fortifications by and by began, the moat was filled up and an alley with lime trees was created here - called "promenade".

You are my neighbor today. Amazing scenery, very attractive. Magnificent management of light, stunning colors, great perspective. People riding a bicycle gives more life and a special interest to the scene.

Guten Morgen Frank,

erinnert mich spontan an ein Lied dass ich diese Woche morgens auf dem Weg....gehört habe
("there are nine millions bycycles in bejing, Katie Melua, glaube ich.. klasse Lied!)

Eine schöne Aufnahme, als das Laub noch an den Bäumen hing, denke mal, das dort heute der Blick durch die Baumkronen ein anderer ist (leer..)
sehr schöne Herbstfarben und eine tolle Lichtstimmung..

Hi Frank,
This would be a perfect place to go cycling, but I hope the speeds here are not the same as on the "ordinary" German Autobahn... I like this very pleasant scenery and this well balanced composition and, of course, the very fine colours. Interesting to replace the fortification wall with a bicycle road, in Gothenburg those fortifications were also demolished at the beginning of the 19th century and are now replaced by three lane streets in both directions. This looks much better!

A lively composition with beautiful light and colours. If I could ride a bicycle it would be the ideal place to go and spend an afternoon getting some exercise. We seem to be experiencing the same weather as you are at the moment - wet and cold.

Hello Frank,
An interesting note and a very pleasant photo. Good sharpness and perfect depth. The leaves on the road look really beautiful, but I guess they can be slippery. I like the inclusion of the woman coming towards us at a safe distance from the bicycles.

Viele Farben, und etwas, das wir kaum verwenden hier in Brasilien - Radfahren.
Denn es gibt keine Radwege und Verkehr macht nicht an Radfahrer.

Hallo Frank. Alleen dieser Art kommen einem immer irgendwie bekannt vor. Aber natürlich gibt es überall ähnliche Alleen. Das Photo ist stimmungsvoll und schön. Quelle lumière !
J'aime beaucoup cette composition qui semble un vitrail avec de très belles couleurs et traversé par la lumière. Les branches et les troncs noirs sont comme les plombs entre les dalles de verre.

Hallo Frank! Meistens fahre ich Velo bei mir zuhause auf dem Hometrainer (es muss alles immer schnell gehen ... ups), doch draussen in der Natur, da ist es viel viel schoener. Dein Bild laedt geradezu dazu ein, man riecht die Blaetter am Boden, man spuehrt die frische Luft, man moechte einfach nur fahren, diese Allee runter. Ein HERRLICHES Herbstbild, in den allerbesten Farben. Tolle Fotoarbeit, gefaellt mir sehr gut. Happy Evening, Barbara.
