Famous German Ghost Town Photo

Photographer’s Note

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a very well preserved medieval small town, with fine ancient houses, cobblestone pavement, Germany out of a fairy tale book for tourists and a highlight of trips to this country.

Needless to say it attracts millions of visitors and the city is completely packed during the season.

But when I visited it I had the chance to be completely alone on the main square, it was a fine evening but it was just plain void as if everybody had been killed by a pandemy. So I enjoyed my shooting time while this pandemy called football was lasting, because a few moments later it had completely changed (taken in the right part of the square).

This image is a stitch of seven.

Wow, it's a beautiful dusk photo. Though the sky is looking not so natural, but if natural colors are there, you have done a fantastic job. Congrats.

What a dramatic blue hour photograph you've given us from Rothenburg... The light management is superb, a product of the judicious use of the Canon 40D. The link you've given is also very interesting, and unexpected as a sequel to this shot.

La ville est déjà très photogénique mais, à l'heure bleue, c'est vraiment le pompon! Stich impeccable et tout le reste à l'avenant. Superbe!

surely you got a fantastic moment, being alone on that square, cause it´s a very rare phenomen in this city, normally this place is crowded, and you think you are part of some kind of "eastern world" :-))..

J'aime beaucoup cette photo. Certes la lumière est très bien gérée (aucune zone sur-exposée) et les couleurs s'harmonisent bien, mais c'est surtout le point de vue et la composition que je trouve parfaits. L'ensemble s'équilibre bien.

There's nothing like an 'important' football match to empty the streets. Excellent blue hour image, well exposed and all the more remarkable as it is a stitch. The blue and orange combination work very well

Hello Jean Yves, timing on this one was brilliant. It has allowed you to put together this picture in a way that will be very difficult to duplicate, or at least until the next major football match. The final product is excellent with very good colour and textures seen throughout. Without reading your notes, I would not have known this was a stitch of seven. Very nicely done! A question on the stitch. Do you use any special software for this, or did you do it manually through masking?

Hi JY, Fantastic night shot, Splendid goden-blue hour. Beautiful view of the City hall, some half-timbered houses and this pavement reflecting lights. Sharpness is really stunning here and we can admire many details. Great stiching job, without distortion or traces of stitching.
Indeed incredible to have it so empty. Last year I was in Gdańsk in time of the finals and I also enjoyed the time that everyone was watching TV and I of course preferred waling on the empty streets.

Such an excellent blue hour shot, and it is like a ghost town, what a nice time to be out there shooting while all is glue to the TV. Excellent sharpness and clarity for a night shot, amazing details and excellent composition. Personally, the blue is a bit too intense for me, in my opinion, it over power the golden light of the architectures. But that is a matter of taste and preference. Excellent shot. My complements.

Tu m'as bien fait rire avec ton dernier commentaire sur ma galerie... Heureusement, l'humour est toujours au rendez-vous avec toi...

Un petit plongeon dans tes archives t'as permis de ressortir cette très belle photo arborant cette signature qui a largement contribué à ta réputation.

On y retouve en effet ce savant dosage de lumière entre le ciel et Bayern Electrical Power.... :-P)

Excellent stitch qui aurait merité une version plus grande, tant il y a de détails.

ps)un petit passage au Mont avant d'aller passer quelques jours à Saint Pierre de Quiberon, une amie y passe chaque année et plusieurs fois elle m'avait demander d'aller les rejoindres, je n'ai pas été déçue du tout, ni par le temps, pas une goutte de pluie dans le quiberon , et par un paysage a la fois sauvage d'un côté et calme de l'autre, bien sur quand le soleil est présent cela fait beaucoup, ce n'est pas toujours le cas la bas, enfin pour moi c'était plutôt réussi a tout point vue, A+

Fantastic job with stitching: it does not show. Only the the wide perspective tells that it would be probably too much even for a wide angle lens.
