Photographer’s Note

After a few mugs you may lose your inhibitions and might start dancing on the table. There are fourteen main tents at the Oktoberfest. The tents themselves are non-permanent structures which are constructed for and only used during the festival. This photo was taken inside Augustiner-Festhalle (Augustiner Beer Tent) - considered by locals to be the best tent, due to the fact it sells the favorite local brew, Augustiner, from individually tapped wooden kegs rather than stainless steel vats used by the other tents.

In late September to early October Theresienwiese will become a pilgrimage destination for beer lovers the world over. It is an open field in the Munich borough of Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt and serves as the official ground of the Munich Oktoberfest. A space of 420,000 square meters, it is limited in the west by a bronze-cast statue called Bavaria, symbolizing the State of Bavaria, and in the east by Esperantoplatz, a square named for the international language Esperanto.

This year the festival will start on September 19th till October 4th 2009.
