Photographer's Note

The Wulfshagen estate is nicely located in the outskirts of Kiel. The region retains many traditional estates and manor houses but Wulfshagen is particularly interesting. Its idyllic scenery with incredibly well preserved buildings has an irresistible charm that has remained unchanged for centuries. Like many other manor houses Wulfshagen was partly fortified. Once arranged for defence against robbers and thieves, the moat is still existing.
It was a time when farmers built their stables and barns by hand using age-old traditions passed down through generations. The buildings protected the people by protecting the wealth of the farmstead; the animals, the grain, the seed, the tools of the farm. In an agrarian society, established on one of the richest soils in the world, it was not inconceivable to imagine that those buildings would last for a couple of hundred years. It must be hoped that the owners are aware of their responsibility so that places like this will be preserved for all time and so that there will always be something beautiful to experience.
Like many other photographers here on TE, I also find myself drawn to particular places, for they are so interesting. Wulfshagen is one such place.
