The Wulfshagen estate is nicely located in the outskirts of Kiel. The region retains many traditional estates and manor houses but Wulfshagen is particularly interesting. Its idyllic scenery with incredibly well preserved buildings has an irresistible charm that has remained unchanged for centuries. Like many other manor houses Wulfshagen was partly fortified. Once arranged for defence against robbers and thieves, the moat is still existing.
It was a time when farmers built their stables and barns by hand using age-old traditions passed down through generations. The buildings protected the people by protecting the wealth of the farmstead; the animals, the grain, the seed, the tools of the farm. In an agrarian society, established on one of the richest soils in the world, it was not inconceivable to imagine that those buildings would last for a couple of hundred years. It must be hoped that the owners are aware of their responsibility so that places like this will be preserved for all time and so that there will always be something beautiful to experience.
Like many other photographers here on TE, I also find myself drawn to particular places, for they are so interesting. Wulfshagen is one such place.

Magnificent this location spotted, Harrtiet.
I believe you were not able to move backwards to collect a wider scope - but what I see here, is just an outstanding view over water, the houses and tress in fantastic reflection.
Cheers for a beatiful one.

Ciao e buona serata

Best regards, Paul

I would imagine that houses like these are proected by law as parts of the cultural heritage, meaning that the owners are obliged to keep them in a good shape and forbidden to make any significant changes.
So let's hope they will forever look as nice as here, casting the same beautiful reflections in the quiet moat on a sunny day in early spring.

A terrific image and note. I like your explanation of why these farm buildings were constructed to have such a long life.

Beautiful half timbered houses by the river, nice naked braches too, just look like a paint, thanks for sharing a fascinating view that full with poetic flavour.

There's a feel of tranquility to this great calming quality enhanced by the beautiful mirror reflections. A competently framed shot packed by tremendous details, colors, excellent clarity and all appear to be in sharp focus and embraced by that wonderful blue sky. Superb capture, Congrats.

A pair of half-timbered beauties, and indeed two photos for the price of one with the clear crisp reflection in the water. Of course, there are variations in the architecture even under the shingle "half-timbered"— after the wood frame is erected, they might fill the space with wattle and daub (mud and hay mixed) or bricks. In this photo there might be one of each. It's a gorgeous shot.

We get two time the nice timbered facades, one as reflection in water and one as reality.
Sharpness and clarity are perfect taken, nice architecture image.
I admire the special luminosity of your photo.
A beautiful work, my friend. TFS.
Have a nice weekend,

What a lovely use of water to double the landscape. It looks almost identical. Very nice composition and first of all very interesting place. Great light and colors. I like also the note accompanying the photo - it is very informative.
Well done and have a nice weekend

You have given us interesting notes to accompany this fine photograph. It reminded me immediately of the story of Snow White's wicked step mother who used to chant:
'Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest one of all?'
Of course, the building on the left is the wicked queen, looking at her own reflection!
The light is gentle, almost subtle, on this winter's day, whilst the buildings are wonderfully, accurate reflections.
It always strikes me how the reflected colours are always deeper than the actual colours.
Have a lovely Sunday,

Moin moin! ;-)

A very good POV where you have captured perfect symmetry between the parts of the scene. This looks like a very peaceful and pleasant place, I am sure we must have passed quite close, without knowing anything about the gem. It is also interesting tocampare the two version here, I quite like the WS version, ith the stronger colours, a bit more.
jusninasirun (17152) 2013-03-10 6:35
You have captured another fine composition perfected with pristine reflection and blue sky. Love your tonal range in this well balanced shot.
Thanks and kind regards.

danos (80336) 2013-03-10 12:28
nice the view of the place half real-timbered constructions to reflected perfect on the calmly surfae of the waters.I like the excellent presentation, the beauty of the place as the light and the colour management of the scene.

Hallo Harriet.

this really is a beautiful and fascinating natural scenery and you have captured it in a very artistic composition. I like very much the symmetry you have created with your composition and framing and how the symmetrical view is composed both by neat shapes and random intricate patterns. The light management is superb, I love the luminosity of the white and blue tones next to the deep eathy hues. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,

what a beautiful composition! The reflection seems 100%! It makes a huge difference. I like the combination of the old architecture with the naked trees all enhanced with the fantastic reflection.

I love these half-timbered houses and am attracted particularly by this pink barn and its triangular roof, as well as the beautiful reflection in the water !
The trees reflection is lovely as if they were lace in the river.
Very informative note too.
Thanks for sharing and have a good day.
