Photographer’s Note

This is a part of the Baroque Garden of Gottorf Castle in Schleswig, a city in the very north of Germany near ther Danish border. Gottorf Castle is the biggest one in the federal state Schleswig-Holstein and for centuries it was the castle of the Danish kings, who ruled this today German region until 1866.
The castle and the garden are connected by an about one kilometer long wonderful chestnut avenue with a cobblestone pavement.

This garden - beginning in 1637 - was created by Duke Friedrich III von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf and it was the first terrace garden with an Italian baroque layout in middle Europe. In the pond you can see a statue of Hercules.
Here you can see a small overview picture.
