Photographer’s Note
Another view of Lübeck, a beautiful port city in the North-East of Germany.
The Hanseatic League (German: die Hanse) consisted of an alliance of trading cities that established and maintained a trade monopoly over the Baltic Sea and most of Northern Europe for a time in the later Middle Ages and the Early Modern period, between the 13th and 17th centuries.Historians generally trace the origins of the League to the foundation of the town of Lübeck, established in 1158/1159. (excerpted Wickipedia.de)
In those days it wasn't gold that people fought and died for but rather salt, and salt was one of the main trading goods of Luebeck during the middle ages until the 16th century.
This shot shows another view of one of the main city channels networking the harbor with the rest of the city. Typical for the "Hansa" Cities are the stepped roofs.
