The last days I showed you several pictures of the oldest German city - Trier (Treves) on the banks of Moselle river. It was founded in the year 16 B.C. by the Romans who left a lot of evidence of their presence here.

One of these are the Roman baths, in German "Kaiserthermen", a really large.area public bath which - even as a ruin - still is very impressive. The baths have been built about the year 300 as a monumental building of representation by the emperor Flavius Valerius Constantius
and his son Konstantin who had chosen Trier as their imperial residence,
The main building of the baths approximately has had the dimensions of the throne room of Constantine, today called "Constantine Basilica". Especially underneath this huge construction there have been truly "high-tech" installations such as heatings and drainage. But this building wasn't started running because the emperor Constantine relocated his official residence to Constantinople. In 360 the emperor Valentinian reformed the unfinished baths to a caserne for about 1000 soldiers of the imperial life guard. Valentinian often is referred to as the "last great western Roman emperor". For many years his residence was Trier.

Later on the buildings of the then caserne became a fortified gate of the medieval city wall ... what a career! ;-)

In the workshop you can see another view of the Roman baths and a photo which shows the situation of these impressive ruins in the center of Trier.

It's a very beautiful scene, full of colours and contrast. I also appreciate your notes.

Hello, Frank -
Very nice shot of these fascinating ruins. Your POV was well-chosen and shows us a lot of fine details of the architecture, especially the arches and their decorative construction. Warm colors, sharp throughout. Well done.

Hello Franck,
Denise

Hi Frank,

I think the real reason the baths were never used was because the Romans apparently didn't have all the holidays that current Europeans enjoy- therefore they didn't really need it. And, of course, they were always at war.

The times haven't changed at all- only the countries. Do you get my drift?

Have a good day.
Randy

Bonjour Frank

Bonnne journée

Hallo Frank,

An interesting and beautiful Roman relic, frank and you have composed it and exposed it very nicely. It works well to place the center of interest to the right of center and allow the tree to fill in the space to the left. regards kevin

Ave Frank morituri te salutant !
Very interesting view with this good spring lights.
I don't know if it was possible to frame more on the right if there was no disturbing elements.
Greetings from a stormy weather in Orléans.

Belle lumière et superbe couleurs.

Hallo Frank,
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

Hi Frank,
Beautiful composition for this nice ruins. What a pleasure to have such a beautiful sky.
Greetings from Brussels where it rains again.
Guy

Hi Frank
Nice capture of this old architecture. Great light.

Bonjour Frank.

Amicalement,
Fabrice

The tree is very effective in the composition.

Hello Frank, good to visit your site once more and being away for a while has given me a lot to choose from. This one I picked because of the beautiful blue sky in the thumbnail and I wasn't disappointed with the bigger picture. The arched windows act like picture frames, the detail in the stone is very good and the pov is excellent. Your note, as usual, is comprehensive and fit's in a little with 'what did the Romans ever do for us'? in my note. A fine shot my good friend, congratulations.

Respekt

Stephen
