Photographer’s Note
This was last last evening of our little holiday, we were flying home to Scandinavia the next day. We were spending the last night in the Moselle valley and took a walk along the vineyards.
I heard a typical trumpet sound from the sky and when I looked up, I saw all these Common Cranes (Grus grus) flying south.
I guess they had been spending their summer in northern Scandinavia and were now returning to northern Africa. They will return back again in March - April, they usually spend their first days in Sweden at Hornborga lake in southwestern Sweden. There will be thousands of them and a big event for bird watchers. After some days, resting and eating frozen potatoes, they continue to their nesting places in northern Scandinavia.
I counted to 132 cranes here and in the WS you can see a photo taken 6 seconds earlier.

Hej Gunnar,
An unusual but attractive photo. I think it would have been interesting to see a series of pictures to see how the shape of the "plow" changes constantly. In just these few seconds they have changed positions considerably.
A very nice composition by nature itself.

Hi Gunnar, I have never seen so many cranes! Fantastic view. You were very like to have such a clear sky, so they are perfectly visible. The make interesting pattern. I hope you will go to Hornborga in the right time to show us them eating potatoes.

Hello Gunnar,
This flock of birds flying south for the winter makes fascinating subject. It is interesting how they form into these V shapes; one wonders how they decide who is going to be 'squadron leader'. The azure blue sky makes the perfect backdrop. A good nature documentary image.

Bonjour Gunnar
l'automne ramène ces volières d'oiseaux migrateurs qui passent pour une température plus clémente, très belle luminosité qui t'as permis de réaliser ce beau cliché.

Do you know this lovely song?
Incredibly uniform blue sky!

Hello Gunnar,
I hope you had as good a holiday as we did, on the Moselle.
What an unusual shot!
I've joined the dots and decided it is an old lady with a cigarette in her mouth! Am I right?

Hi Gunnar. It is fascinating to watch the migratory birds. These birds are masters of orientation. Even in the old myths, this phenomenon is described. Against the blue sky, the birds are seen very well. You have photographed in the ideal moment. Very nice. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hallo Gunnar!
This year I haven't seen them here although one of their flight path annually seems to run over Siegen. A wonderful shot - and a interesting compositions in both photos - but made by the cranes ;-) Isn't this bird migration a wonder ... ?!
Greetings from very mild (15°) and sunny Siegen! A nice Sunday to you both!
Frank
PS: Next Wednesday I'll go to hospital in Grafschaft for three days and I'll think of you when passing Fleckenberg and Jagdhaus! ;-))

Bonjour Gunnar.
Je suis émerveillé par tes deux photos. Elles montrent l'organisation du vol de ces migrateurs tout en laissant un beau graphisme dans le bleu du ciel.
Du très beau travail !

this is an original and very simple picture, where the line of birds is superbly emphasized by the uniform blue of the sky!Even if the birds are very far and appears very small, there is an incredible sharpness on them! And I like how they are placed, the lines seems like a face!Superb!
