Photographer’s Note
Yesterday I showed you the church St. Paulin in Trier (Treves), a breathtaking baroque church. You can see a huge photo of the overwhelming interior here. Every year at the beginning of October the "Days of the martyrs" take place here - in remembrance of the Trier martyrs and the so called Theban Legion.
The Theban Legion - according to the Christian tradition 6660 men - was a legion of the Roman army. All members of this legion by and by suffered martyrdom in the 3rd century because - unexceptionally being Chirstians - they refused to fight agains fellow Christians in Gaul and to worship Roman gods. Many of them and citizens of Trier were put to death near Trier and it is passed down that Mosel river then was coloured red by their blood. Whether this is a legend or a historical fact still is unprovable.
Trier anyway was the residence of the Roman emperor since the year 293 and the center of Roman politics.
Many bones of these martyrs are entombed in the crypt of the church St. Paulin and they only are amenable for the believers during the "Days of Martyrs". The sanctuary then - as you can see in the workshop - also is open and three gold/silver busts are exhibited. The already overwhelming church in these days is even more worth seeing.
In the workshop you can see the open crypt with the statue of St. Paulin and a wider view of the choir of the church.

Guten Morgen Frank,
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

Hello Frank,
A superb capture of those most beautiful reliquaries. The depth of field is well controlled to lift them slightly from the background. Good natural colours and fine detail.

Eine beindruckende Präsentation und sehr interessante Note. Mir gefallen die Farben gut, was ja manchmal in Kirchen nicht so gelingen will.

Hello Frank,
How is visible the modern law - but Roman - this was however born in blood also Roman legionaries.
Is Perhaps the fact, and perhaps only the myth. We know however, that also in the present world such events are like surprising.

Hello Frank,
In this simple, but elegant composition, you give us the interior of St. Paulin, indeed a breathtaking site. The colors and resolution are very impressive, attesting to the value of the tripod and the slow shutter speed. And in the best spirit of Trekearth, you have given us the detailed not.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Bonsoir, mon bon ami Frank,

Wolfgang
