Photographer’s Note

The Steipe (the name refers to the arcade supports in local dialect) was built in the 15th century for ceremonial functions for the city councillors and dignitaries. The house was destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt in 1970.

The Red House on the left side was the house of the bakers' guild master and secretary of the cathedral chapter, Johann Wilhelm Polch. The most important inscription on its facade tells of the legend that Trier is 1300 years older than Rome. (ANTE ROMAM TREVIRIS STETIT ANNIS MILLE TRECENTIS)
