Lateral nave of the cathedral, a photo from Rheinland-Pfalz, West

Photographer's Note

The cathedral of Speyer, along with those of Worms and Mainz, is a major monument of Romanesque art. It is, by virtue of its proportions, the largest, and, by virtue of the history to which it is linked (the Salic emperors made it their place of burial), the most important.
This imposing triple-aisled vaulted basilica is the culmination of a design that was to be very influential in the subsequent development of Romanesque architecture during the 11th and 12th centuries.
The photo represents one of both side naves of very impressive height. The pinkish color of stones is very particular.
Without tripod, I contented with putting the camera on a rail and with relying on the stabilization of my lens.

La cathédrale, avec celles de Worms et de Mayence, est un monument majeur de l'art roman : c'est le plus important par sa taille, et le plus significatif par son histoire, puisque c'était le lieu de sépulture des empereurs saliens.
Son imposante basilique voûtée à trois nefs représente le sommet d'un style architectural qui était appelé à exercer une très grande influence sur l'architecture romane, au cours des XIe et XIIe siècles.

La photo représente une des deux nefs latérales de hauteur très impressionnante. La couleur rosée des pierres est très particulière.
Sans trépied, je me suis contenté de poser l'appareil photo sur une rambarde et de faire confiance à la stabilisation de mon objectif.

This is a beautifully composed shot, using the tall, receding arches in such a way that they guide the viewers effortlessly along the length of the corridor, the details sharp and obvious are a treat.

Le cadrage est soigné et le rose des pierres ressort à merveille sur ce fond blanc. Belle perspective, on doit se sentir tout petit sous une nef de ces dimensions-là !

A very interesting note and a beautiful photograph - your trick of balancing your camera on a wall has certainly worked very well in this case.

This is a beautiful nave, so elegant through its sheer simplicity and so much less complex than naves in more recently built cathedrals. Your tall, symmetrical composition works perfectly here and we can appreciate the full size and splendour of this place.

Lovely soft light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

Une perspective bien réalisée. La voute ressemble à un énorme ballon gonflage qui s'envole vers le ciel. Ca donne un bon rendu graphique. Le jeu d'ombre et de lumière ajoute un atmosphère particulière.

un cadrage vertical très bien choisi, avec lequel tu nous offres le superbe graphisme de ces voûtes de la nef latérale de la cathédrale, ainsi qu'une dynamique et profonde perspective de ces éléments architecturaux.
J'aime bien le beau jeu de lumière et ombres sur ces éléments.
C'est un travail magnifique.
