Ölberg, a photo from Rheinland-Pfalz, West

Photographer's Note

On the southern side of the Cathedral, you’ll see the very much impressive statue of Ölberg (Mount of Olives). Once it was part of the no longer existing Cathedral’s cloister. It has been set up in early 16th century (artists: Nikolaus Elser and Hans Seyffer) but was badly damaged during the War of the Great Alliance in 1689. The statues have been replaced with similar ones (by Gottfried Renn) as the original Ölberg had in 1865.

Le Ölberg (Mont des Oliviers)se trouve devant la cathédrale romane de Speyer. Cette impressionnante statue se trouvait dans le cloître au XVI ième siècle mais a été beaucoup endommagée par les guerres du XVII ième. Les statues ont été remplacées par des statues identiques aux originales en 1865 (œuvre de Gottfried Renn ).
La cathédrale de Speyer est l'une des plus belles constructions romanes d'Allemagne. Les débuts de la construction remontent au début du XIe siècle, sous le règne de l'empereur Conrad II.

The tight frame has worked well to highlight the many beautiful details of this architecture. You have captured such a pretty light, which seems to illuminate the facade and the surrounding area. Excellent vertical frame and sharpness superbly judged.
