Photographer's Note

The Old Gate (Altpoertel) is the medieval west city gate of Speyer. One of an original total of 68 towers in the old walls and gates. Today it is one of the largest (55 metres high) and most architecturally significant of the remaining city gates in Germany.
The Old Gate was built between 1230 and 1250 on the ruins of a previous tower. The bottom of the 13th century tower remains as the foundation but, in 1511, Speyer's mayor ordered that the tower be rebuilt, so the top portion is newer. It was completed in 1514. It was originally built as an exterior gate, connecting the old town with the suburb of St.Gilgenvorstadt. A 20-metre high roof was added in 1708. (wiki)

Hi Asa,

a very nice view of Altpoertel in the city of Speyer.. a town will is located about 75 km from my homevillage, locates in the palatinate forest.. on clear days one can see the towers of Speyer cathedral from up there..
a pretty one in colors and format!

Bonjour, cher Asa,
Difficile de ne pas voir cette ancienne porte monumentale haute de 55 mètres ! Heureusement que nos aïeux nous ont laissé ce joyau architectural. La toiture ajoutée au dix-huitième siècle couronne joliment l'ensemble.
Très bon cadrage pour valoriser l'édifice.

Impossible that someone arriving from the west wouldn't find the entrance gate to the town :)
The Altpoertel is a real landmark. Look how it rises above the roofs of the houses.
Good presentation of the architectural details and a beautiful sky as a great background.

This is a well chosen POV to present this tower. The colors are well saturated and the sky gives a special background. The distance to the tower gives deepness and the sharpness is very good.

The street is leading my eye toward the gate which is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the architecture of the Old Gate. The late afternoon light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Nice view with the Altpoertel as subject.
The tower clock is the most real eye catcher on these picture, exactly a golden clock.
What a nice gate, you create depth and perspective.

What a beautiful old gate, its architectural details are exquisite. The deep colours are also very attractive, although look a little dark on my monitor. You chose the vertical frame well and the clouds in the sky are wonderful.

A great photograph shows a beautiful gateway to the beautiful medieval city. Gate fits beautifully colored with a delicate sky. I was there once, in 1993.

Splendid vertical presentation of this beautiful 13th century tower.
The lovely blue sky wispy coud background is ideal for this scene.
Palm trees in Germany really grab the eye and lead it to your lovely architecture.
