The ruins of Ehrenfels Castle on the edge of Neiderwald Rudesheim, off Bingen due west while cruising the river Rhine: 49.9756, 7.8801 on the map, and just opposite of the Mouse-tower.
Both monuments shown on the Wikipedia page attached.
A WS with a view due NE on the castle and vineyards on the slopes.

Your point of view shows these still impressive castle ruins to good effect in their dominating position on the hillside. I like the contrasting tone offered by the greenery on the right. A well presented image with good light colours and sharpness.

The castle is well placed in the frame. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the ruins of the Ehrentels castle. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

You're capturing well this castle by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see old Ehrenfels Castle which is standing on the hill top and the surrounding greenery. It looks like strong structure with stone-made and tower. It's mysterios for me why there are many castles along river Rhine. It's also impressive in vineyards of #WS.

What a commanding view this castle must have, and how wonderful that it is surrounded by vineyards. I think I could retire here and never leave :) The colours are beautiful and vibrant and I lie the textures and perspective created by the rows of vines. Amazing how they can grow on such steep ground. Lovely shot and thank you for your kind wishes to my mamma.

You took these picture nice out of the low position, this makes these pictures excellent of position.
You create depth and perspective, also a splendid architecture picture.
Excellent captured, nice composition, pleasant presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice Tuesday,

a picture as I love it. It is easy to imagine how the castle looked like at its best time.
An impressive building, nicely captured!
All the best

Nicely composed shot with the ruins of this castle perched on the side of a steep hill. Love the way the scene flows diagonally across the frame and the upward POV shows the dominance of the castle on the hillside. Nice shot Ike.
All the best

A fantastic composition with these imposing ruins, the castle rises a formidable place to be defended, with that steep slope and those high and mighty towers, that give beauty to the whole.
Well managed both luminosity and sharpness.
Have a nice day.
All the best.

the ruined castle still looks imposing. Your composition is great as you made it stand out on the diagonal and gave it enough context without any distractions that might diminish its allure. The steepness of the slopes is stunning. There's superb sharpness and the colour combination is very attractive. The lighting variations on the castle have been captured excellently, they create a dramatic and melancholic mood. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

I like both, this and the one of the WS, Ike, a very good composition taken upwards to show vineyards and the old and imposing castle
Good mix and contrast, green and grey of the stones
jemaflor (74044) 2013-10-29 11:59

Des ruines qui ce dresse fièrement sur la colline , bel harmonie des couleurs gris et vert, POV autre en WS, plus éloignée, mais intéressant a voir
mkamionka (27073) 2013-10-29 14:41
very attractive presentation of this interesting castle. I have never heard about it before. I have spent so many (7) years in Germany and yet your reportage shows places which I did not have a chance to see. I like the geometry of the composition with the strong diagonal in the foreground and asymmetrically positioned in the frame tower.
jcpix (6544) 2013-10-29 16:41
Great to have you as my neighbor today! :) Here it is again, the strong diagonal cutting across the frame...love it! Amazing too the vineyards growing on this stretch of land. The vibrant and deep greens are a nice contrast to the textured and muted tones from the remains. This is also a very nice viewpoint to really enhance the formidable ruins and their size. A lovely composition broken down into three proper portions from corner to corner. Bright, detailed and well presented once again. Have a great day ahead.

Fine view of Ehrenfels Castle dominating the hillside above the Rhein; good resolution and natural coloring.
I would highly recommend Deutschland's Rhine area to historical architect lovers.

who can resist these old castles right!?
I know I can't!
the ruins give us a sense of how it looked, but can you imagine how it looked in its prime! especially tucked in nicely against the hillsides, i bet it was beautiful!
excellent post for TE, everything about it I like
lousat (64197) 2013-10-30 5:30
Hi Ike,it seems to be in Scotland or Ireland watching these ruins and this green,a beautiful imposing perspective to show us the best of this castle,in this seems a big one,but not in the full view in the WS.Excellent work as usual! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano
saxo042 (33926) 2013-10-30 6:27
The composition is built around the diagonal line here with the highest part at the harmonic third. A very beautiful castle and a very attractive picture!

Good afternoon Ike
Interesting view, nice colors and pov
A brillant picture
eldancer1 (20792) 2013-10-30 7:44
A good place for a castle, it would be difficult of invaders to storm the castle on the side of a hill. Good pov and it has good dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.
mcmtanyel (5249) 2013-10-30 20:25
What a magnificent structure perched on the hillside! On the first glance, it looks precarious and then you notice the rock on which it is placed. Well seen and rendered.
Royaldevon (21463) 2013-10-31 2:46
Good Morning Ike,
Oh, I feel so envious that the weather was so awful when we visited Rudesheim! Believe me, it was raining so hard that only the people travelling on a coach ventured out!
This looks like the perfect place for a castle: steep hill, easy to defend and with excellent views. Your composition creates a very natural diagonal across the frame, emphasising steep position. Fine details of the structure and its vegetative surroundings.
Have a lovely day,
ChrisJ (91286) 2013-10-31 7:24
A superb upward pov on the Rhine River castle in Germany with good sharpness and excellent graphism against the lighter sky. The terraced vineyards on the steep fg hills contrast well against the rocky ramparts at the foot of the castle ruins. Tfs!
carlo62 (19421) 2013-10-31 15:06
posso immaginare quanto timore potesse fare questo castello al culmine della sua gloria.
Bella diagonale, sapientemente suddivisa tra cielo e terra.
mirosu (8130) 2013-11-01 4:40
This is excellently captured castle from very well selected viewpoint. The view from lover angle makes the castle majestic and dominant. The light is perfect, the contrast against green foreground and light blue sky excellent. Well done.
Wish you a very nice weekend.
PaulVDV (17273) 2013-11-02 2:55
An imposing castle built on an impressive place high above the Rhine.
Equally impressive are the vineyards on the extremely steep slope.
Good clarity and sharpness.
Best regards, Paul

You have visited many nice places there!I like ruins a lot, so I would surely like to visit this one:)! A very good pov! The Ws gives a good idea of its location.
Gigidusud (10236) 2013-11-15 11:43
Great POV on the ruins of castel and a beautiful contrast to the gray stone on green vegetation. I like it!
jmdias (48351) 2013-12-05 23:45
this angle let the ruins more grandiose an beautiful. I liked these details of the architecture. the slopes looks so hard for plantation, anyway I saw some plantations in Colombia in angles with almost 90 degrees.
