Market Square Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is the apothecary shot on the market square in Mainz. We past through this square about 2-3 hours earlier and it was full of vendors selling everything from fresh vegetables to live chickens. I was amazed how quickly the area was cleaned up to where you would have never know that the market had been there.
Mainz is a city in Germany and the capital of the German federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It was a politically important seat of the Prince-elector of Mainz under the Holy Roman Empire, and previously was a Roman fort city which commanded the west bank of the Rhine and formed part of the northernmost frontier of the Roman Empire.
Mainz is a city with over two thousand years of history. It is located on the river Rhine across from Wiesbaden, in the western part of the Frankfurt Rhine-Main Region; in the modern age, Frankfurt shares much of its regional importance.

A nicey animated composition of this lovely square. I like the the low angle of view which makes good use of the street cobbles as lead lines. Good colour contrasts and excellent clarity.

Voilà une très belle vue de la place de Mainz. Difficile de croire que le marché se tenait sur la place tant celle-ci est d'une propreté remarquable.
Quant à l'environnement : superbes maisons anciennes aux couleurs et décors très agréables, c'est tout simplement magnifique.

Beautiful capture of this captivatingly beautiful German architecture that stands out so brilliantly against the vivid blue summer sky.

Elles sont belles ces architectures harmonieusement colorées.Le bâtiment blanc sur la gauche plutôt moderne semble surajouté.
La place est très belle aussi, elle est une invitation à y prendre un moment de détente.

I love this old german architecture and here you have chosen a pretty good example of it. The colours are wonderful even if the light was a bit too strong. Good to see such a nice square without cars! Fine sharpness and contrast that make the whole composition gay and interesting.

I really like. The POV, bottom-up, moves the scene in a particular way. It seems almost that I walk to the market. The lines of tiles help to give great depth

very nice buildings. It is good that you have left enough space in the foreground and thus given an impression of the atmosphere there. (The price for this choice is the use of wide angle lens with the inevitable consequence: spherical distortion. I find the correction of Georg for really succesful.)

This is one of the few towns in Germany which I did not visit.
Colors are fantastic and the walking people create a very relaxed atmosphere. I think it could be a bit sharper,
