The famous event Rhine in Flames (Rhein in Flammen) is a series of annual fireworks in the middle Rhine region. The displays take place in different cities at different times of the year. As a specialty one can view the fireworks from passenger ships that sail from city to city in order to provide a spectacular view of the shows.

The picture you are viewing was taken in Koblenz and shows the the Mosel river and the fortress Ehrenbreitstein from which the rockets were started.

The schedule for each year is as follows:

1. First Saturday of May between Linz and Bonn,
2. First Saturday of July between Niederheimbach and Bingen / Rüdesheim,
3. Second Saturday of August between Spay and Koblenz
4. Second Saturday of September in Oberwesel and
5. Second Saturday of September between Sankt Goar and Sankt Goarshausen
