Half-timbered Papagolfade ;-)

I already showed you some of the many "Kapellenschulen" (approximately "chapel-school") of my region. These buildings, beginning about 1650, were used weekdays for holding of instructions and on sunday or holidays for church services - see the small clock-tower. Another example you can see here.

After the institution of these schools and before the compulsory education was established (in Germany generally in 1919!) in summer the school attendance was only a quarter of the attendance in winter. The reason for this was the "natural" child labour at these days, especially in agriculture. In winter children were more "dispensable"...
In the first time the instruction of reading and writing only was based on the bible. The next subject in my region was - singing! Incredible, because mathematics was established as a subject not untill ~ 1800. Mathematics remained second rated for a long time. The subject "fruit growing" was established about 1780!
Nowadays these "Kapellenschulen" in the villages mostly are used for family celebrations, meetings of the local associations and similar events in the village. In this one, the Kapellenschule of the village Friedewald, also a hairdresser does business.

By the way - it's interesting that the Emperor Ludwig der Bayer in 1324 assigned he same rights to the market town Friedewald as they were assigned to the then town Frankfurt on the Main - the rights of a "free city". Frankfurt today has 663.000 inhabitants, Friedewald 1.200. That's history ... ;-)
